Alabama didn't just lose. They were crushed and not punished at all for it.
The much more surprising thing is James Madison making the playoff. I understand having to include one G5 team (Tulane) but why another with no power conference wins that was squeaking out one score victories against teams like Georgia State and Washington State?
That's not necessarily a bad thing. There are too many bowl games as it is and in this new era too many teams aren't even equipped to field a quality team because of opt-outs (for transfer portal or NFL prep).
Goes back to there being waaay too many schools at this level.
What will clearly happen in the maybe not so distant future is the Big 10 and SEC forming their own alliance and kicking the NCAA to the curb
Part of the problem could be solved if we did away with the 6 win threshold and make it 7 wins. A 6-6 (0.500) team should not be bowl eligible. They should at least have a winning record.
There are actually too many schools declining bowl invitations, too many star players opting not to play due to risk of injury. I think we're gonna see a number of these low level bowls go away. Tbh, 41 bowls is silly ridiculous.
It's got to go to Mendoza. Easiest pick in a long time.
