I was aware of that -- but I can't see what you're driving at

    did you have a point?
My point is to dismiss Chumpdumper's response to my earlier post: "Can they just raise prices in other countries to the same as the US is paying now?"

I don't think other countries are going to do what Trump suggests, do you?

I thought Trump already did that before -- the re-promise to lower drug prices by presidential decree does not inspire confidence

Of course he said he would do it before. That's why prices went up.

Arizona cancels medical debt for almost half-a-million residents

Another more than $200 million in medical debt has been wiped out for Arizonans.

And the recipients are going to know who to thank: Gov. Katie Hobbs.

The new figure was announced Monday by Allison Sasso. She’s the president and CEO of Undue Medical Debt, a company that agreed earlier this year to use some $10 million in state American Rescue Plan COVID relief dollars to buy up medical debt from hospitals and doctors for a few pennies on the dollar, eliminating a negative mark on the credit reports of those who racked up the bills.

All totaled, according to the governor’s office, the program has so far erased $642 million owed by more than 485,000 Arizonans.

And under a deal the state cut with Undue Medical, the beneficiaries all get letters crediting not just United Medical but also the governor.

"eat and die" is the Republican healthcare plan

OVER 100,000 ARIZONANS HAVE LOST ACA HEALTHCARE COVERAGE so far this year...likely much higher, in fact.

And unsubsidized members of the ~250K who still have it are facing whopping *29%* premium hikes on average next year.

OBBB is wrecking your local hospital

When the state’s new fiscal year begins on Tuesday, Texas hospitals expect to lose $27 million a day in additional Medicaid funding.
The shortfall is the result of a decision by the Trump administration to withhold approval from Texas for about $9.8 billion in the next year from three programs, the bulk of which affects the Comprehensive Hospital Increase Reimbursement Program (CHIRP). This program gives hospitals additional funding to cover the difference between Medicaid rate payments and the actual costs that hospitals incur to provide services to Medicaid patients. Essentially, hospitals, which often are paid less than what they caspend on Medicaid patients due to outdated payment rates set by the state, are losing out on their additional reimbursement for 2027.

Local governmental en ies collect taxes from hospitals — about $4 billion a year, according to the Texas Hospital Association — and under CHIRP, the federal government matches those funds so that Texas hospitals can then use them to cover the actual costs of providing Medicaid services. Hospitals say those CHIRP dollars are critical and if they lose that funding, they will likely have to cut services to patients.

and driving up the cost of your ACA insurance

    • Overall, national, mostly-weighted average rates for unsubsidized ACA enrollees looks like it will be around 15.2% higher next year.

    • The average 2026 premium is around $741/month, so for 2027 that would mean roughly an additional $113/month for unsubsidized enrollees, or around $854/month nationally.

    • That's over $1,300/year extra per unsubsidized enrollee on average.

    AI death panels for seniors

In January, the Trump administration rolled out a pilot program that uses artificial intelligence to authorize or deny certain types of care for patients with Medicare—a federal healthcare program for seniors that previously hasn’t required doctors to get any such pre-approval, called prior authorization. Not long after, media outlets began relaying the disastrous outcomes: technical difficulties, long delays in decisions and care, puzzling denials, frustrated doctors, and patients suffering in pain. Those reports were largely confirmed earlier this month when the Electronic Frontier Foundation released a tranche of federal do ents about the program, called WISeR, that the group obtained amid litigation. The do ents included feedback from healthcare providers, including one who called the program “a disgrace to the human race” and reported seeing patients crying in pain as they waited for care.

Amid the worrying reports, lawmakers have been trying to get answers and shut the program down. Meanwhile, the Government Accountability Office determinedin May that Trump officials did not follow proper procedure in setting up the program, calling its legality into question. Still, it appears to be moving ahead unabated, with plans to expand in the years to come.

Last week, Rep. Suzan DelBene (D-Wash.) called a committee vote to try to get the Trump administration to release more do ents about WISeR, but Republicans voted the effort down.

“It’s clear why the administration is doing everything they can to conceal these do ents,” DelBene said in a statement. “The more that Americans learn about WISeR, the more outraged they get at the Trump administration for jeopardizing their care and trying to privatize Medicare.”
