United States Park Police officers arrested the 67-year-old — who competed in the canoe slalom in three Summer Olympics — on Friday, June 19, after he stopped to look at the newly renovated Washington, D.C., pool in the midst of a 52-mile bike ride, according to The Washington Post.

Hearn told The Post that after noticing a piece of liner that was partially detached from the pool, which was painted "American Flag Blue” as part of its more than $14 million renovation, he reached into the water to see what the piece felt like — and just moments later, he was being arrested.

While preparing to leave and continue his bike ride, the U.S. Park Police officers arrested and detained the former Olympian on a misdemeanor charge of destruction of government property, per The Post. Hearn claimed to the newspaper that his detainment at a Park Police facility lasted for nearly five hours, and he was allowed to leave at around 9 p.m. local time.

To be clear, the Court agrees with the Department that a grand-jury subpoena need not be supported by probable cause. At the same time, a grand-jury subpoena cannot be issued for an improper purpose. The fact that connections between the information sought in the subpoenas and any possible criminal violation range from extremely weak to nonexistent only adds to the overwhelming evidence that these subpoenas were not issued to investigate, but to harass, coerce, and retaliate.

In sum, because the Court finds that the dominant purpose of the challenged subpoenas is to coerce Minnesota officials into assisting the federal government with enforcing civil immigration law and to harass and retaliate against them for failing to do so, the Court grants the motions to quash.

    Intel shareholders: Trump extorted Intel

This formerly sealed stockholder derivative complaint alleges that the Trump administration extorted Intel into giving it 9.9% of its common stock, plus warrants for another 5%, without a legal basis for doing so. The complaint named the Secretary of Commerce as a defendant who removed the case to federal court where motions to dismiss filed by the Secretary and the Intel defendants are pending.

sending federal agents around to harass Americans for their speech is getting more frequent

this lady was confronted while she was working at a primary polling location as an observer

Two U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents issued a warning to a Syracuse woman Tuesday to remove a social media account they said threatens federal agents.

Paigelynne Gonyea said she believes they are referring to a January post where she named the ICE agent who shot protester Renee Good.

Gonyea was working as a poll worker Tuesday afternoon at the Central Library on Salina Street when agents called to meet with her. She said she invited them in...

Gonyea posts frequently about immigration on her social media accounts. In January, she posted the name of Jonathan Ross, citing news reports. Ross is the ICE agent who shot protester Renee Good in Minnesota. His name has been widely reported in news stories and other social media posts across the world.

“I think today is a great day for Jonathan to be indicted,” the post says.

Gonyea said she does not consider it doxxing to quote a news story and call for an indictment.

“I didn’t dox his personal information, such as address, phone number,” she said.

Gonyea said she does not intend to delete her post. In addition to the attorney general’s office, she said she has contacted Rep. John Mannion, Mayor Sharon Owens and the New York Civil Liberties Union.

“For ICE to come to me over a social media post just feels very 1984 to me,” she said. “They definitely should have known better to not go into a polling place, even if I said it was OK.”

The agents handed Gonyea a form letter that says they were investigating threats made against ICE personnel. The form says the agents had identified an Instagram account they believe breaks federal law. They asked her to remove and discontinue the behavior, according to the unsigned do ent she shared on Instagram.

“This notice officially informs you that it is unlawful to threaten to assault, kidnap, and/or murder a federal official or that federal official’s immediate family member with the intent to impede, intimidate, and/or interfere with the federal official’s duties or retaliate against a federal official due to the performance of their duties,” the do ent said.

The do ent said she could be subject to both federal and state prosecution.

The agents had New Jersey phone numbers and license plates. She said the agents held a folder with copies of her social media posts and her drivers’ license.

“They tried to scare me into signing it while I was working,” she said.

reposting straight news to social media isn't doxxing or a crime of any sort, on the contrary, it's specifically protected by the 1st Amendment

the tender feelings of the third most powerful US Rep are under threat

Rep. Emmer is apparently in a personal state of fear and apprehension of having his at ude accurately described by others

Republicans are whipping up race hate in Minnesota

Minnesotans are so afraid that you're gonna call us a racist, you're gonna call us an Islamophobe. You know what? I'm done being even the least bit careful. Somalis don't assimilate. And if they don't assimilate, then they should go the back to where they came from.

Trump wants to ins utionalize more disabled Americans

THE TRUMP ADMINISTRATION HAS MADE clear that it wishes to purge America of some of its undesirables. That includes, for instance, deporting 100 million people (a third of the population). But for those he can’t expel, he hopes to simply hide away.

Last week the Department of Justice published a memo authorizing states to ins utionalize more people with disabilities. This basically means plucking more people out of society and shutting them into nursing homes, psychiatric hospitals, segregated schools, and sheltered workshops, rather than funding community- or home-based care where they have more autonomy.

“This is at its core about the belonging and inclusion of people with disabilities in our communities,” says Alison Barkoff, a health law professor at George Washington University who worked on disability policy under Presidents Barack Obama and Joe Biden. “This is about moving forward from a very shameful part of our history when we locked people with disabilities away from society.”

The DOJ policy would turn back the clock on decades of law and Supreme Court precedent. Since Olmstead v. L.C.,1in 1999, states have been required to support disabled people in the most integrated setting possible that is appropriate to their needs. Ins utionalization is supposed to be the last resort.

The consequences of this change could be enormous. Community- and home-based care services involve having a home health aide visit a person for, say, a few hours a week at home, rather than sealing them off in a closed facility. They help disabled people achieve both personal and financial independence. This kind of support empowers people to care for themselves, maintain relationships with friends and family, and hold jobs. And there has generally been bipartisan political backing for policies that, for example, enable children with disabilities to live with their parents whenever possible.
