The consensus right now is that the Kidd trade was a disaster. I think it can still pan out, and it will probably pay more dividends next year. I understand now why the inverse is true - our offense has actually been worse with Kidd, when the conventional wiz had him getting us easier shots, while our defense is better, when the cw said we'd miss Devin's ability to stay with the quicker guards.
Kidd is not washed up. He's going to have trouble keeping CP3 and Deron in front of him, but who doesn't? He does a good job of defending the bigger guards, and he creates turnovers by playing the passing lanes and getting steals. We are certainly different now, but we're better defensively. On offense, it's a bit different story. effective FG% is up, but we're scoring less because we're more turnover-prone. That is due to botched fast breaks from running more with Kidd, and guys not handling his passes.
This thing still has a chance to work, but it's probably going to be next year. It may not result in a le, in fact it probably won't, but Dallas is going to be better next year bc of this trade than if they had kept Devin. That much is clear to me. Phoenix has adjusted to Shaq and incorporated him in, and we'll eventually get there with Kidd.
