If you were a GM and were starting a new franshise, and had to pick one. Who would you build your franshise around?

    Dwight Howard or Chris Paul?

Dwight Howard. I'm a huge fan of Chris Paul but Howard's size, athleticism, quickness and ability to dominate the paint area is far more rare to find than a great point guard. Either would be a great guy to build around, but I think I'd take Howard first.

yea Howard would be the favorite pick but Chris Paul just looks more like a leader and mentally tough... i predict Chris Paul at the pace he is going, when he reties be mentioned in the same breath as Magic Johnson....

Chris Paul is one of the best I've seen at making his teammates better. I'd have to go with Chris Paul.

I agree completely. He is already one of the best I've ever seen at making his teammates better and more confident. The guy is a damn good player and a of a leader.

Howard. Although Paul is amazing, his at ude sucks, and i believe it is much harder to find a truly dominant big, than it is to find someone to run the point.

It is close, since paul is so good at gettnig his team off, but id still go with Howard.

Dwight Howard. It's still a big man's league, and if he can continue to improve he'll be as good or better than Shaq in his prime.

What settles the bet for me is building a team on the defensive end of the floor. Offensively Paul has a small edge in my book. As Howard adds some polish to his game that gap might close, but at this moment Paul is as good as anyone on the offensive end of the court. But defensively Howard is much, much more attractive if I'm building a team. A quality big man can cover up mediocre perimeter defense, but with hand check rules and what not the reverse isn't true.

And while I wouldn't say that quality PG's are a dime a dozen, I would say that there are more of them in the league than their are superstar centers. I'd have more confidence that either through the draft or free agency that I could get a good PG than a good big man.

I think its much easier to cover up a mediocre point guard, than it is a mediocre big.

You could have dwight howard in the middle, and it really wouldnt matter much who was bringing the ball up the court.

A dominant big man is rare as finding a diamond. I gotta go with Howard. You can always find a diminuitive PG later.

Dwight Howard, if he's willing to put up the hardwork in polishing his offensive skill in the post, he can be a stronger version of Hakeem.

Howard can dominate on both ends of the floor. If he had a good point there is no telling what he could do. Howard by a mile.

I don't particularly like either, but I'd take Paul.

at the notion of Dwight Howard being better than O'Neal or Olajuwon.

Good big men are rare, good point guards right now are a dime a dozen.

Name off the good and great Big men in the NBA right now
Yao, Duncan, Amare, DHo, Jefferson, Kaman, Bynum, Chandler

Then name off the good/great Point Guards
Nash, TParker, Paul, DWill, Rondo, Roy, Arenas, Billups, Kidd, AI, Bibby, BDiddy, Fisher, Andre Miller, Calderon, Udrih, Rafer, TJ Ford,

Chris Paul will always be too small so he can only do so much. You can teach skills but you can't teach size, I take DHo.

Neither. Howard hasn't taken Orlando anywhere in 4 years and Chris Paul hasn't take NOH anywhere either. They're both useless.
