Since he'd rather leave than focus on defense, play more than seven guys or get a second point guard on the roster, that's true. I think the last point guard the Suns had on the roster with Steve Nash was Smush Parker for about a week three years ago.

So Steve Kerr screws the pooch by trading for a broken down Shaq, and then fires the coach whom has led them back from obscurity.

    BRILLIANT !

Not sure if it was the coach's fault but Kerr said he is either a genius or an idiot ...well we OBVIOUSLY know now which one ...
Shaq did help on the boards and did free up Amare from the BIG time defensive post reponsibilities ...but he KILLS your team at the FT line and in Pick n roll ...how many times did he leave TD open or wipe his teammate out freeing Parker for floaters?
Shaq and Phoenix was a poor fit also...
Let's be honest Nash looked OLD!!!! he made several key TO's and Bowen rendered him ineffective most of the series ...he is the 2-time MVP!! (even though BOTH years they were bogus)

Did I misread? The article didn't say he was fired, only that they will be meeting and that it is likely D'Antoni leaves, because of the fundamental disagreement with Kerr.

Did I miss where he was told to pack up his office and git?

He also helped Steve Nash win a pair of MVP awards by implementing a fast-break offense which allowed the Canadian point guard to flourish.

You could have had a monkey in a suit parading around, huffing and puffing and Nash would have been just as effective those first three seasons. D'Antoni did little more than stand there and clap when things went good, and throw tantrums when things went bad. That was the extent of his coaching... Ra-Ra and Boo-Hoo...

Smooth...it's almost a given that the guy will find a team quickly. I think I saw the Bulls mentioned as a possible destination somewhere.

The Suns though have a tough search ahead; who out there is a good enough coach to integrate their seemingly mismatched parts, get their franchise players to play both ends of the floor and get them over the hump against the powers in the West?

He took a chance. He traded a player that was likely going to leave Phoenix as soon as he could, was able to clear Marcus Banks' terrible contract (A D'Antoni signing) for a player that at least made them tons of money in jersey sales and sponserships.

It failed, but in my opinion the Suns were advancing too much further had they kept Marion and Banks. Maybe one round, but that's it.

The only thing that matters is winning your final game of the season.

He's a minority owner. It's pretty silly to think he'd sabatage the team he makes money off of.

    Still, pretty funny...

Mike D'Antoni is NOT fired, per ESPN First Take. Kerr told an interviewer that the story last night was false, and that they will talk in the next few days about the Suns future. But as for now, he's still the coach.
