if they do this will be a 6 or 7 game series going either way
Get ready for a 6 or 7 game series, then. Adjustments will be made, but there's enough leaning in the Hornets' favor for a Game 2 victory.

Obviously, Tim Duncan will be back to his stellar self tonight and Tony Parker will make his way to the hoop ahead of everyone on the fast break or through everyone in the halfcourt, but does anyone really believe that Bruce Bowen (read that again... Bruce Effing Bowen) will have another game with FIVE 3-pointers? He alone had more than the entire Hornets roster (4) in Game 1. That won't happen again. Those two changes (Duncan improving his game and Bowen coming back down to his average) should pretty much cancel each other out.

Even with more focus on D-West, he'll still have a solid game. After all, he did average 23 ppg in four regular season meetings. I wouldn't be too surprised to see him limited to 20 points... but that would free up CP to get into his rhythm... something he didn't really do until the 4th quarter when the first game's outcome was all but decided. Extra attention on D-West will also make Tyson available for the signature "Crescent City Connection" alley-oops. If either Peja or MoPete is on tonight, the threat of their outside shooting is enough to seal the win. Add to all this the home crowd, and it's a tough, uphill climb for the Spurs. Of course, that'll only mean the Hornets have done their job of protecting homecourt. Gotta get one in San Antonio to make things interesting.

    Biggest Changes:
    Duncan (improved all around)
    Bowen (offensively deflated)
    Paul (improved aggressiveness)
    Pargo (improved shooting)

If we go up 2-0 it dosen't mean much. If we go up 3-0 the series is over.

If Hornets go up 2-0, this series is over. Spurs need to nut up and play their game. They are pussies if they lose tonight. The final chapter of the spurs championship success concludes this season. They need to go out with a bang.

    The series is over now.
This is the first time I've heard of a team giving up and being up 1-0.

The San Antonio Spurs during the Tim Duncan era never won a series in which they DID NOT have homecourt advantage except for 2005 WCF in which they won the first 2 games.
Didn't the Spurs beat the Suns last year without HC?

Game 1 was the critical game. The Hornets displayed their dominance.

I agree with Budkin, if the Hornets win Game 2, they'll be up 2-0.

I will say that I love the zero sum game that some of the Hornets are presenting in analyzing the series, Duncan improves and Bowen reverts to form means that Game 2 is a Game 1 repeat for the Spurs. Finding a way to slow down West means that Paul goes off and means that Game 2 is a Game 1 repeat for the Hornets.

Honestly, are Hornets fans surprised that the Spurs made the playoffs? To read your comments, you'd think that the Spurs were fortunate to qualify and don't have a clue about how to adjust from game-to-game, since everyone knows that any one adjustment just serves to weaken a team in another place. Will Bowen hit 5-of-10 threes in Game 2? Probably not. Have the Spurs ever won a playoff game against a good team without Bowen hitting 5-of-10 threes? Absolutely.

I would submit that the value of between game adjustments and the fact that they aren't just zero sum games is borne out by comparing Games 4 and 5 of the 2005 NBA Finals. Or maybe some of the other instances in which the Spurs got blown out on the road only to bounce back and take the next road game in the series:

    *2007 West Finals, Games 3 & 4
    *2007 West Semis, Games 2 & 5 (and even Game 4)
    *2006 West First Round, Games 4 & 6
    *2005 NBA Finals, Games 3/4 & 5
    *2005 West Semis, Games 4 & 6
    *2003 West Semis, Games 4 & 6

Does this mean the Spurs win Game 2? no, it doesn't. Does it mean that Game 1 doesn't mean a damned thing when Game 2 tips off tonight? Absolutely.

Game 1 is not that critical . TD did get shut down and cp3 got slowed down .
But its too early to tell what will happen . Spurs have been in these situations numerous times and they will take care of business . Hornets cant expect to always double team on TD . Expect a new game .
