This is what Gasol has to say about our team and the chance of facing us next round:
"Los Spurs son los vigentes campeones. Tienen mucha experiencia, ya han estado en esta situación y la experiencia es muy importante a estas alturas. No digo que ganar a New Orleans vaya a ser fácil, porque es un equipo con mucho talento, joven y que defiende muy bien, pero prefiero a los Hornets antes que los Spurs"
Something like: "The Spurs are the current champions. They have lots of experience, they have been in this situation before and experience is what matters up to this point. I am not saying that defeating New Orleans is going to be easy, because they are very talented , young and play good defense, but I would rather face the Hornets and not the Spurs"
Be afraid...be very afraid!!!

Someone else trying to fire up NO by insinuating they're not as good as SA. Wouldn't surprise me at all to find out that PhilJ told him to say this.
PHil is playing a very fun game with the Spurs now...
Time to go CIA.
I wouldn't be surprised if the Lakers beat the Hornets in 5 should it come to that. Lakers actually match up very well to the Hornets.
Hornets don't have any defender who can stop Kobe and I think that Gasol and Odom's length will bother David West, and Odom's been playing out of his mind lately. Lakers also have a very deep bench, something the Spurs don't have and the Hornets don't have either.
yeah, you'd be crazy to choose to play the Spurs over the Hornets.
We all want to see a great series and have the Lakers "play the best" but c'mon, this is the championship on the line, easy road is always better.
I'd like the Spurs to win cuz I like Duncan, but I won't complain if the Hornets win tomorrow.
he just ask one of his wishes from stern and the media, ur wish is granted, anything for ratings
Spurs fans need to be worried about the hornets and NOT about the Lakers. Either team will give LA a tough series. I mean if it makes you feel better that a few Lakers fear San Antonio, I guess that's nice but it won't make your spurs the better team. The bottom line is, the better team will win game 7, and if the spurs don't find out how to finally not get blown out in New Orleans, then that team will be the New Orleans Hornets. It's almost like some spurs fans on this board are so worried, they are finding quotes to back the contention that the spurs are, in point of fact, the better team regardless of what happens in game 7. Just go win game 7 and don't spend time thinking about who the Lakers (or any one else for that matter) think the better team actually is. (We'll find that out tonight)
He can wish, but it's not gonna happen.
its their way to plea to the refs who also read the papers
Is anyone actually capable of successfully guarding Kobe?
Gasol doesn't have good memories facing the Spurs in the playoffs.
LOL. Grasping at straws when he gives the defending champs some respect because of their accomplishments and turning it into a slight.
Whatever gets you guys to the WCF I guess.
Shane Battier guarded Kobe the best of anyone I've seen this season.
Kobe straight lit Bruce up the last time they played, at 37 I don't know if Bruce has the footspeed to really slow Kobe down like he used to years ago. I thought Udoka did a better job to be honest.
And you'd have to be a fool to WANT to face SAS over any other team. Even if you win the series you know it's going to be a knockdown drag-out fight where SAS is fighting tooth and nail to beat you. Any sane person would avoid that if they could.
win the game tonight. that's all we need to be worrying about
Agreed!! Let's not get ahead of ourselves. The Spurs have to win tonight!
Battier did a great job on Kobe, best I have seen in a long time. Even if he was doing an illegal act with face guarding, he put the onus on the refs to call it and of course they didn't.
I think you are underestimating Bowen though. He won't shut down Kobe (no one in the world can, other than David Stern) but he will likely get his shooting percentage down some from the floor which would not bode well for the Lakers as our defense without Andrew Bynum is still suspect.
I'll tell you this, Steve Nash is sure hoping the Spurs let Bowen go this summer, I bet he is still having dreams about being tailed around by BB.
