A toast to you for being a good sport. And a toast to your team for giving us the most compe ive series since 2006. The Hornets are a scary, good team and one whose time is here. They're going to be monsters the next few seasons and a fun team to watch. We're going to have to retool a bit in order to stay up.
Chris Paul was the best 22-year-old point guard in the history of the NBA this year. If he keeps this up, there's no reason why he can't be an all-time great.
He played better in this series than any point guard has ever played against the Spurs. That's counting MVP Nash, HOF Stockton and the other countless all-stars the Spurs have played over the years.

Great series. The Spurs are a pain in the ___ to play. Great inside game, great outside game, great defense. I'm very proud of the Hornets, we have a long and great future ahead of us. It's been fun, hopefully we'll have a couple more weapons when we meet next year. Congrats.

Hornets will be great for years to come. CP3 and West are great, I just feel like they need a #3 goto guy.

Hes gone from a 17-7 guy to 18-8 and 19-9 this season and massive playoff effort to boot. Next season he joins the elite PF group of Boozer/Brand/KG etc.
I think you guys need another guy who can create his own shot... maybe a Corey Maggette type of guy to replace Mo-Pete who would be better served off the bench.
Agreed. TNT nailed it. An athletic two that can create on his own. Manu if you will. Ron Artest isn't exactly that, but he would have made things a lot more interesting covering Manu all series. I wish we could pry a Jamaal Crawford, or Corey Magette(dreams I know).

It was one of a series. The Hornets have a of a team, and I am sure we will meet again in postseasons to come.
I think experience just finally won out over youth. But the Hornets can certainly build on the experience they got this season. Another year of maturity, and who knows, it could be the Hornets year next season.
Looking forward to some great games between TP and CP in years to come.

for reals. New Orleans, LA, and Portland (perhaps Utah) are all on the rise. Everyone else in the west are not.
indeed...nothing like showing class in defeat, as well as in triumph...i wont say CP3 and tony will have battles for yrs to come..cos i just dont see CP3 staying in NO, not only that, the way CP3 plays he will end up like Dwade sooner then later, I understand you only get the chance to make it right now...cos tomorrow is no guarantee......go spurs go
No excuses. Just outplayed. As much as I dislike the Spurs, they just straight up outplayed the Hornets and showed what Championship ball is about. Good luck the rest of the way.

Reasons why the Hornets are in deep doo:
- Paul has a once-in-a-lifetime year and West also had most likely the best year he will ever have.
- Pargo will be gone; he has a player option for 2 mil and he is going to think he can get better $ and be a starting PG (ala Speedy) somewhere else. With Paul only making $4.574 on his rookie contract, they aren't going to re-negotiate with Pargo to get him more cash than Paul, who has 2 years left on his contract.
- Peja makes a whopping $13 mil next year (by far highest on team) to disappear in the playoffs like he always has.
- Unlikely Wells will be back.
- The Hornets were amazingly injury-free this year.
- Byron Scott has never, EVER been a closer as a coach.
- Their bench is amazingly thin already (only 3 bench players played - Pargo, Wells and Ely; 2 of those are likely gone and the other is a Spurs cast-off who only played to foul Duncan).
- They will stand at about 59-60 Mil without Pargo and Wells (under the 67-68 Mil LuxTax)
- Butler makes 3.63 Mil next year; Hilton Armstrong 2.032, Wright 1.869, Mo Peterson 5.784, James 6.049 (by contrast, Jacque Vaughn makes 1.2, Ime Udoka 1.08, Barry 1.26)
The Hornets should ask their football neighbor what happened to them the year after they suprised the world and were their sport's darlings - I anticipate the same for the Hornets.
CP3 is going to get a max contract this summer. Shinn has already stated they will basically give him whatever he wants and he loves it here. And I think it's more than fair to say that CP3 and West aren't going anywhere basketball wise any time soon. Peja was great all year. He forced the Spurs to use their best defender on him. He played his part, besides, there's only one Bruce Bowen in the league.
The truth is, we need to get more out of the guys we have. Julian Wright and Hilton Armstrong are two very talented first round picks. They need to make the steps up like CP3 and West did (not that drastic granted). Chris Anderson is a very good reserve as well who didn't play in the playoffs due to missing most of the season and a virus on top of that.
Pargo and Wells are up in the air. But the Hornets are a very tempting team to play for now, and everyone here are very good friends.
If we can maybe get a role player in the draft, and hopefully bring in an older vet to have an impact, this Hornets team will remain VERY formiddable. If we're able to pull off a trade to bring in a slashing two guard, then lookout league.
The problem with giving Paul a max contract (12-14 Mil) is there goes your extra cap/luxtax space (extra 9 Mil takes it from 59 to 68) and you didn't sign someone in Pargo or Well's place. Anderson isn't signed for next year (and let's be honest, he is nothing more than a crowd fave who can pull some rebounds against the 2nd units), Armstrong will never be anything special. Wright has potential. Still, with a Paul max contract, you can't sign anyone else and be under the tax. NO is a small market and competes regionally with a very popular Rockets franchise and an Atlanta team also on the rise.
Peja is NOT a playoff performer. He has nice numbers in 1st round series where they are romps, but fails to play well in the clutch games. He's not aggressive enough to create on his own.
The problem with bringing someone in is that you don't have salary room to spare; unless a trade is made or if Shinn wants to go signifigantly over the tax limit, you have what you have - and right now that doesn't include Pargo or Wells. You are about to have you big four 10 Mil players plus 3 players (James, Butler, Peterson) that make a combined 15.463 without doing anything. 7 players that make 63.343, plus Armstong, Wright and Ely make it 68.244. Already over the limit with no Pargo and Wells and Anderson. James and Wells were both brought in specifically for playoff experience. Now NO is stuck with 2 more years of James' 6 Mil + contract and no contract for Wells, who made 2.2+ this year and would likely want at least same. Remember Wells sat out because he didn't get what he wanted before.
Money wise, and personnel wise, NO is in a world of hurt.
