Any problem with Google search and Yahoo ?

GOOGLE: I can access the main page, but when I want to search something, it doesn't work; I can access Gmail' main page too, but not the mailbox.
Oddly Google Map works well

YAHOO: I can't access it

It's difficult to do like this but I would guess there's something wrong with your browser or router.

Assuming you have already reset your router and PC, I would check for spyware/viruses (some of those integrated toolbars - similar to Yahoo/google toolbars - can play havoc with access to search engines). It is not normal that you can reach yahoo with ping, but not with a browser.

A badly configured parental control filter could also be at fault, but I'm assuming your not using one

Well, I have trouble accessing those 2 with all my browsers (FF, Opera, IE)

I don't a whole integrated toolbar in any of them (but I do have the small google search thingy on the side)

That's why I'm suspecting spyware (it would actually influence all installed browser).

I mentioned the google toolbar only as an example of what a toolbar is - there's nothing wrong with the legit ones.

Try to run an anti spyware program or two...


This is a stupid trick and not a fix but it might help use this URL: www2.yahoo.com or try typing the yahoo ip directly (you got it atop your ping results).

I ran tons of scans, anti-spywares.....still nothin'

I was checking my Recycle Bin (out of desperation), and of all the files that were in it, the " Desktop.ini " was the 1st one I clicked on; I don't know WTF it was doing in there......anyway, I clicked on "restore", and voila !!!

Everything is working fine: Google, Yahoo, Gmail.

It's a windows configuration file, actually if you do a search for it you might find tens or even hundreds of those files.

Could you please open that exact file with notepead and copy/paste it's content in here, I'm reall curious why it fixed your problem.

If they are hundreds of them, I don't know if I'll be able to find it, unless I check the properties of each one of them.
