We are playing alot better this year. The Sox are probably used to the O's just giving up after the 6th inning. We may not make the playoffs this year, but we are going to be alot better than some of these so-called experts had first predicted we would finish.

There are a lot of things to like about this team. I don't think the luck will hold this season (but the O's won't finish historically bad like many analysts predicted before the season).

But the team could be looking very solid heading into next year:

RF/CF/C are taken care of for the foreseeable future with Markakis/Jones/Weiters.

Quite possible (probable?) that Texeira will be added via free agency and finally fill the hole that we have had at 1b since Raffy's first stint at Camden.

Roberts may still be moved. But even if no other team steps up to the plate, the O's just hold onto the best 2b in the division.

Reimold should be ready to be the every day LF by next year.

Keep one of Scott/Huff for DH, move the other.

Still some holes on the left side of the infield. Mora is nothing better than league average at this point and the O's have nothing in the system that looks to fill that can be a quality ML SS.

The starting rotation will have no shortage of candidates.

DCab/Guthrie/Olsen/Arrieta/Loewen/Patton/Albers/Tillman/Liz. The birds have quietly built up one of the best pitching systems in the bigs.

And the bullpen will only get better with experience (and the return of Ray, who can be slotted back into middle relief where he belongs).

D-Cab also seems to be finally calming down. Kranitz must be helping him along alot.

that play that Manny had was both awesome and funny. Running over the head catch, high five the fan, then double the guy up at first...nice

I think alot of his catches are purely on luck alone. But you are right, they were spectacular grabs...

oh don't get me wrong that was about as lucky as you can get, but I also think that his luck out there is what makes it so funny

Yeah I know. I meant to add this . But it does look comical with him frailing all around out there. At least he makes an effort though.

did anybody see the ESPN headline this morning. it was "manny's catch steals orioles thunder."

i'd say that it was more Jay Payton's grand slam stealing the thunder of manny's catch.

Yeah I saw that. I started thinking, what did Boston rally in the 9th and I missed it?

    that's 3 in a row and 6 out of 7.

this team could still run out of steam during the dog days and lose 90. but it's funny to think back on all of the 'analysts' that had them as the worst team in baseball and penciled in for 100 losses.

one thing that does need to be done is to get Trachsel as far away from OPACY as possible.

    .

You couldn't have hit the nail any harder! I think he needs to be replaced in the rotation with Olsen. He always gets behind the hitters and we always seem to play from behind when he pitches.

But I think that we are playing really great to this point. The difference I see in this team verses the other teams we had that always started off great but ended up falling apart BAD is, those other teams never went through any REAL losing streaks. So once they would hit that bump in the road say after the all-star break they didn't know how to recover from it. So it would be like a 10-15 game losing streak or something along those lines. This team has already been through a couple of early season losing streaks of the 2-3 game nature, but has managed to rebound nicely and put together some pretty impressive wins. I say we may win 75-85 games this year. Also the only reason I think nobody is talking about the O's is due to the fact that Tampa is starting off so hot. But when it's all said and done I think that we will finish ahead of them.

by the way, one guys i didn't mention up above - Jim Johnson!

how about his performance - this guy is nails. i don't want to give up on him as a starter yet, but he's been money at the back end of that bullpen.

they brought him in to face Manny in a bases-loaded, nobody out situation on Tuesday and he promptly sawed Manny off for a 1-2-3 double play and would get out of the inning without allowing a run.

last night, the 3 Nats who faced him were completely over-matched. 3 straight Ks.

yes, i realize it was the Nats, but it's been a while since the O's had a pitcher anywhere who could completely over-match any line-up. probably not since BJ Ryan.
