I was up past 2 in the morning because of this thread. I'm exhausted, it's all SpursTalk's fault. Where do I sign up for the lawsuit?

I was up until nearly 3, myself...you should call Phoenix Wright, for he is an Ace Attorney.

I'm late on this thread but I'll answer anyway...

The answer is yes. Chris Paul and David West were great in the previous series. The thing with the Hornets is that they played so great because of Chris Paul and his playmaking abilities.

The Lakers have three very good playmakers in the starting line-up with Kobe, Odom, and Gasol. And, those three are all above average passers. I think it's been said before, but the Lakers are probably the best passing team in the league. Because Kobe, Odom, and Gasol all have the ability to score one on one, their passing skills make even more of an impact.

Offensively, the Lakers can definitely play better than the Hornets did. The Lakers defense is more suspect, but even though the Hornets played really well most of the games defensively, I don't think they're a much better defense than the Lakers, if at all.

Any lawyer will tell you that this is an unenforcable contract, even if it wasn't void to begin with.

    Business law 101.

You cannot legally enforce bets in states where it is illegal.

In this case there is no legal basis for the contract, and it is void (i.e. never created in the first place).

This is similar in form to forming a contract to rob a bank. "I will pay you $1000 if you rob the bank for me."

If the future robber renegs on the deal, the guy who wanted to pay has no recourse in court.

I am not a lawyer by any means, but this issue was addressed rather specifically in my business law classes by the professor. I recall her talking very specifically about bets being unenforcable contracts and why. (yes, I made "A"s in both of the graduate classes I took)

    (shrugs)
There are a few lawyers that acctually post here, and I am sure they can either correct me or confirm this.
The bet was a farce from the beginning. I was just playing around, seeing if I can get a knee jerk reaction from Train Wreck. Obviously, posters jumped on it and it kind of took a life of his own. I knew nothing would come out of it. It's all good.

From "You'll hear from my lawyer" to "I was kidding" in less than 8 hours. Not bad.

I actually kinda believe this. I kept thinking nobody could be this stupid.

...or better yet, make it a tagline.

"I saw Bruce Bowen grab a piece of Kobe's jersey. He will be hearing from my lawyer when I sue to get it back."
