Popovich tells Spurs to be angry, but not obsessed

San Antonio's coach says he wants his players to remember that they played poorly in the fourth quarter of Wednesday's loss to the Lakers, but he doesn't want them to brood about it.[/COLOR]

Don't let it linger, but don't forget it either.

That dual message was sent by Spurs Coach Gregg Popovich to his team this morning after watching a 20-point third-quarter lead dissipate to the Lakers in Game 1 of the Western Conference finals.

"More than anything, we just want to let that game go and realize it's one game," Popovich said. "We had a great opportunity and did not take advantage of it. They were great in the fourth quarter, defensively did a wonderful job. They're up 1-0. The important thing for us is not to linger, but just move forward and play the game on Friday with the same energy and hopefully, with a little more decision-making that's good."

    But also...

"You don't want to be complacent about it and act like it didn't happen," he said. "We want to be angry about the way we played in the fourth quarter and the way we gave up the lead."

The Spurs did not practice Thursday, instead watching film. That probably included watching Kobe Bryant taking over the game in the second half after scoring only two points in the first two quarters. Bryant led the Lakers with 27 points.

"Kobe's the greatest player on the planet," Popovich said. "He can do what he did last night. Our problem was, we had to keep scoring and we didn't do it."

Popovich also said that there is no time to be worried about fatigue or injuries. Manu Ginobili tweaked his left ankle early in the first quarter.

"There's no concern, for the one reason that there's no time to be concerned," he said. "Nobody cares and it's playoff time, so you go play."

I have to admit, when The Beak lined up that wide open 3 at the end of the game with the Lakers only up 2....my heart sank for a moment.

Luckily, he missed and all is right in the world today!

My biggest concern is Pop got outcoached by Phil last night. He is kissing Kobe's ass in the media, although i don't think he thinks as highly of him as he is saying but he better step it up against Phil.

Duncan is a lock to get 30+ points every night.
Ginobili needs to limit his TO's
Parker needs to penetrate and dish well
Role players need to hit thier 3's

Pop didn't get outcoached. His players didn't execute and slept wallked through Kobe's efforts to come back.

Pop's message to the guys is really good, because it would suck if the players dwelled on their blown opportunity that sucks when you think about it, but in reality, it was the first game. They have another chance to right the ship and steal another road game.

How did he get outcoached? Sustantiate your claim. Give examples.

You make hateful remarks about a person's physical characteristics. Intellectually impressive. Way to reveal your "higher level" educational achievement. Not only do you almost certainly not approach Ginobili's character attributes or on and off court success, but I'm willing to wager that you couldn't pull a transgender pros ute in Bangkok with a wad of hundreds in your fist. Get a life.

concur. Tim Duncan is, or at least was the best player on the planet. Not sure he can overcome Pops coaching.
    Ass kisser Pop.
