The current version of the Lakers is a damn good basketball team, but I still don't think they're nearly as dominant as they were 6-7 years ago. I believe in the 2001 season, both Kobe and Snaq averaged just over 28 PPG. They also had Rick Fox, Harrace Grant, and Robert Horry.

The won 67 games in 2000, followed by 56 and 58-win seasons.

I don't fear this bunch nearly as much as that team.

    can't wait for the game.

This team is NO WHERE near the level of the 2000-2002 Lakers. That team would just toy with the league year in and year out....they were also more interesting and more fun to hate...they had Shaq, guys we loved to hate such as Rick Fox, Robert Horry, Kobe, Devean George, Mark Madsen....that was a special team.

This current team has NO similarities to that team. They don't have the same mental effect on the league that those Lakers did. They're not even fun to hate..they're just there. Kobe's the same Kobe, Fisher is lukewarm. Then it's a just a bunch of flunkies...Gasol, Odom, Vujacic, Farmar, Turiaf, Luke Walton? Gimme a break. No similarities to the 2000-2002 Lakers other than the shirts they wear and that Jack Nicholson still comes to the game.

current Lakers have too many soft Euros on the team.

(BTW, this is tongue-in-cheek, as I remember people used to insult the Spurs as too "foreign")

No comparison...but only time will tell. Check out Hollinger's latest thread on how this team stacks up. He has them in the Top 10 of all time playoff performers if his trends continue. Yup, full of BS as well. However, until this team wins the ring this year or next, it can't compare.

Oh not even close on that one. Even if Bynum was healthy he and Gasol combined could not match what a prime Shaq brought to the table. Fox was good, Horry was in his prime, they were amazing.

Why don't you take the Lakers stats and run them against playoff teams only vs the Spurs.

This year's Lakers team is like a 1 year old puppy with alot of potential but, they are not even close to the seasoned bird dog 2000, 2001, & 2002 Lakers teams. Having said that this years SPURS team is not even in the same ballpark with the Pitbull 2003, 2005, & 2007 SPURS teams. So all we can do is sit back, grab a cold one, down some nachos, check out all the good looking ladies out there and enjoy this Jr. Varsity Western Conference Finals play out. Either the SPURS or the Lakers will beat either of the EC teams, Pistons or Celtics.

This Laker team is much deeper than the 2000 Lakers, the Lakers never had much depth back in those days. But again, this team doesn't have Shaq.

ps. With Bynum back healthy, Pau, Kobe, Odom and Fish (Turiaf, Machine, Luke, Radman, Ariza, Farmar), this 11-player deep team might dominate more than Jordan's Bulls.
