Anyone check this out after the game last night? It's hard to believe that dimples and hanging chads entered our lives almost eight years ago.

It's well written and very entertaining - the cast includes Kevin Spacey, Denis Leary, and Ed Begley. Oh, and the doctor lady from Jurassic Park plays Katherine Harris and pretty much steals the movie (edit: Laura Dern).

Regardless of your politics, it's worth a couple of hours of your allocated idiot box time.

Thanks for the recommendation. I have been looking forward to it, but of course it premiered during last night's game.

Saw the movie last night. It was entertaining. I remember that at the time of the depicted events, I wasn't too upset at the prospect of a Bush presidency. Bill Clinton had just embarrassed the Democratic Party and Gore didn't help himself during his campaign. I remember watching him roll his eyes and sigh throughout the debates with Bush and thinking that his antics would cost him with swing voters. Plus, at the time, I didn't think Bush was all that bad. I really thought he could change the tone of politics. In fact, I think I was more upset about the outcome of the 2000 election while I was watching this movie than I was just after the 2000 election.

I remember on election night in 2000, I was living in a small apartment in the Museum District in Houston. I stayed up until four a.m. to see if the networks would make a call. By the time the opinion in Bush v. Gore decision was issued, I just wanted the whole event to be over with. How differently would things have turned out had Gore won? Maybe not much, but who the knows.

Oh yeah, it was nice to see that Joe Lieberman has been screwing the Democratic Party for the last decade.

The one thing that I took away from the movie was that the Democratic Party officials were spineless pansies and were always afraid of what the public would think, while the Republicans had a "win at all costs" mentality. Maybe there was some truth to that depiction, but I do think it was overdone. Also, the filmmakers' political leanings were evident throughout the flick and made me question the veracity of the tale.

    Yeah, no kidding. F-ing Lieberman.

There are a few inaccuracies in the Recount film, but it holds relatively close to the facts. Though it was frustrating to see at times, I thought it was well done.

There are so many things that still bother me about what happened in Florida in the weeks following the 2000 election (WTF Supreme Court?), but what went down before is what really kills me. The fact that the Florida purge committee knew their felon list was hugely exaggerated and did nothing is insane. Denying thousands of innocent people the right to vote because their name was similar to that of a felon is unacceptable, not to mention all of the transplant felons.

Lieberman's role in the 2000 Presidential election theft...

From Recount, here's the unfolding of Joe Lieberman's capitulation to Bush lawyers on counting unpostmarked,
undated, unsigned overseas ballots received after election day:
Overall, overseas ballots received after election day boosted Bush's total by 739 votes. (Gore actually lead Bush by 202 votes in the ballots cast and received on or before election day.) Of the 2,411 late ballots, 680 were later determined to have been illegally counted by The New York Times.

An analysis by Princeton and Harvard researchers found that if these 680 illegal ballots hadn't been counted, Bush's final margin would have been closer to 251 votes. That probably wouldn't have been a big enough difference to swing the election even if SCOTUS hadn't stopped the recount and nothing else had changed, but it does make it all the more clear that Al Gore actually received more votes than George Bush on election day -- even when you ignore GOP voter supression tactics or the butterfly ballot.

And in the context of the recount, it pretty much killed Gore's chances of winning. As Kevin Spacey says sarcastically at the end of the scene: "Thank you Joe Lieberman."

If you liked Recount, can I recommend:

Many have heard of the alleged voting irregularities that occurred during the presidential elections of 2000 and 2004. Until now, these incidents have gone under-reported and are commonly written-off as insignificant rumors or unintentional mishaps resulting from an overburdened election system.

“American Blackout” chronicles the recurring patterns of voter disenfranchisement witnessed in both elections while following the story of Georgia Congresswoman Cynthia McKinney, who not only took an active role in investigating these election debacles but also found herself in the middle of one after publicly questioning the Bush Administration about the 9-11 terrorist attacks. Some call Cynthia McKinney a civil rights leader among the ranks of Shirley Chisholm and Malcolm X. Others call her a conspiracy theorist. American Blackout gains unprecedented access to one of the most controversial and outspoken politicians in America and examines the contemporary tactics used to control our democratic process and silence political dissent. The film features interviews with: U.S. Congressional Representatives, John Lewis, Cynthia McKinney, John Conyers, Bernie Sanders, and Stephanie Tubbs-Jones; former U.S. Civil Rights Commissioner & Dean of UC Berkeley's School of Law, Christopher Edley; BBC journalist Greg Palast; and, Van Jones, Executive Director of the Ella Baker Center.

Under the topic of MSM not reporting their own complicity in DoD crimes, Congress is working on a bill, already unnecessary since psyops and propaganda by DoD towards USA are already illegal, to ban it again. Congress is also trying to get investigation into DoD propanda crimes with payola retired military paid to play the DoD's bull music:
