Use an Agency get the best deals!! Alaskan cruise normally 3,500 for 900.00 etc...

Go to Colorado and ski, get some snow in your boxers! you live in San Antonio the Humidifier of Texas! You deserve to cool off!

Then hit Vegas, and for 800 dollars each you have left over do a cruise. I have seen it done. We went on a bad ass cruise for 450.00 each. and then we went on a ski trip for 375.00 each then we hit Vegas for 50 dollars a day at the Mirage.

Your looking at 900.00 per person for a time of your life!

And since you have 3 Grand that leaves you 1000 each for spending cash!

Yeah, if we do a cruise, I'll definitely have to hit up a doctor to see what he can give me.

I've gotten motion sickness a few times in my life, so the first day of the cruise I went on last year was kind of brutal - but that also could have been because it was 40 ft seas in the Pacific. My grandmother has been on a bunch of cruises in the Caribbean and says that it's a lot easier there with the calmer waters. After the first day even in the Pacific, though, I was fine. Cruises are pretty awesome - I would definitely spring for the balcony state rooms if at all possible, though.

In Colorado, you can do a lot if you two like the outdoors. You can do Hot Air Balloon, horse back in the mountains. You can go biking, white water rafting, and so many other things. Its nice out there.

I've been on 4 cruises to the Caribbean, and personally find them to be the most enjoyable of vacations.

On small craft in the ocean, I've gotten sick a time or two, but never on a cruise ship. Typically the seas in the Caribbean are pretty calm. If the seas are rough, you can feel a slight sway at times. But it's nothing like bobbing up and down on a small fishing boat. The ships all have stabilizers to help reduce the motion.

As someone else mentioned, there are bracelets you can wear that should help w/ the nausea. I think they're called 'Sea Bands'. Dramamine is available on the ship, usually given out for free when you board if you ask the purser. But the most common aid I've seen used are the patches. Place it behind your ear, and you're good to go. Just make sure you put it on well before you reach the ship. I think they say 6 or 8 hours before. I used the patch on my very first cruise just to be safe, and decided I didn't need it a couple of hours into the cruise. But you'll probably see a third of the people using them the first couple of days.

Another thing I'd suggest is getting a cabin somewhere in the middle of the ship. You don't want to be near either end as you'll feel more of the motion. Plus, you can hear, feel the rumble of the engines if you're near the very back of the ship.

Something else to consider is the itinerary. How many islands, and how many days at sea? I personally get bored on the days at sea. I'd rather be out doing things, seeing things. There's pools, and sunning. Casinos, movies and shows in the theaters, and activities arranged by the cruise line. There's plenty of food to eat at all times of day or night. Women tend to love the Spa and Massage deal on days at sea. Balcony suites are great if you just want to lay out and not be bothered by all the people.

Jamica, St Thomas, Grand Cayman, Cozumel, Fla Keys, are all popular places. They all offer their own thing to do or see. Curacao, St Maarten, St Kitts, St Lucia, St Barts, Martinique, Barbados, Grenada are my most favorite spots.

Do research though. A couple of people mentioned that Cozumel sucks. I kinda agree, but there's always alternatives. When I went to Cozumel, we actually chartered a plane to take us to Chichen Itza for the day. It's still one of my favorite vacation memories. You won't find a Cruise Line offer such excursions, but if you read up, you'll find alot of options that are available to you.

I've often found the Ships offered excursions to be a bit over priced. I've had good luck going my own way. Getting my own Taxi, asking the locals for the best diving/snorkeling spots. The secluded beaches. The real view of the islands. You can book private charters for snorkeling/diving/fishing on line. Just be sure to get back to the ship on time, because they will leave your ass behind!

Don't buy the touristy trinkets without haggling and bargaining prices. Same for the Taxi's. They'll give you a price ... counteroffer it.

You'll probably want to choose a cruise to the Eastern or Western Caribbean as they usually leave from Florida. The Southern Caribbean trips depart form Puerto Rico which tacks on quite a bit to the air fare.

The shorter cruises, 3, 4 days, often times have a lot of kids on them. The longer cruises, 10 or 12 days, are usually a much older crowd. MUCH older. I did a 10 day Southern Caribbean on Princess cruise line and the average age must have been over 60. The people just weren't fun.

Nothing worse than trying to relax by the pool, when there's 20 kids from 6 to 15 running around and screaming. The nightclubs can be filled by 15 years olds asking you to get them a drink!

I find the 7 day cruises to have the best balance of the type of people on it.

Princess Cruise Line tends to be a bit more of a luxury event, with more snooty people looking for things to have a fu-fu flair. Whereas Carnival and Royal Caribbean are more about the average Joe. More about fun than luxury.

I love cruising. There's tons to do if you want to keep busy, or tons of time if you just want to kick back and relax. The Caribbean weather is beautiful. The color of the water is amazing. I just don't see how you can go wrong if that's what you decide!

Man, I'd love to do that, but we go to Colorado once a year to visit family. She probably would give it the veto.

rita929 and i seriously considered jamaica (strawberry hill -- in the mountains; sandals and the caves on the beach; also the ritz was priced about the same as the other results)

but we're honeymooning in san francisco

250 round trip plane tickets from austin, wine tours, city stuff, etc

other places we looked at ($3,000 was our budget too)

    were

vancouver I really wanted to go because you can hit up the city of vancouver, go up to whistler and have a mountain resort, and/or spend time on victoria island. can do whale watching etc

we also looked at argentina to go skiiing but couldn't find cheap enough plane tickets

plane tickets to paris were actually pretty reasonable, a lot cheaper than anything else to europe

cruises are incredibly lame unless you like giant floating festering pits of disgustingness that stop briefly just long enough so swarming locals can hawk cheap crap at you and gawk at the stupid looking tourists
San Francisco is definitely in the running. What time of the year are you going?

I say NYC then. So much to do out there. Plus you can go down to Philly or D.C for the day and come back. Catching a Yankees game in the Bronx is nice. Especially a day game.

Mandy and I have been researching honeymoon destinations, and have come up with a few ideas. We have a budget of 3k, but would love to spend way less than that.

A few of our ideas so far.

A Cruise - Don't know where to yet, but most likely a Caribbean one. The biggest problem with a cruise is that i get very very motion sick. Have any of you been on a cruise, and did you have any problems with the motion? I've had a lot of people tell me that the since the ships are so big, you don't feel a thing. I'm dubious, cause I blow chunks riding in a car with a bad alignment.

Sandals Jamaica - This sounds pretty cool. All inclusive sounds good, but it's pretty pricey when you include the flight price.

New York City - I've always wanted to go, but we are leaving at the end of May. Summer in New York doesn't have the appeal to me that winter would.

Any other ideas would be appreciated.

    Thanks guys

Cruise ships, as long a you choose a large one i.e. Voyage of the Seas or one of her sister ships, are very stable, and you hardly realize you are even moving.

And the things with cruises, everything is paid up front, except for the stops in ports of call, and any daytime adventure you would like to try. All the food you can possibly eat, entertainment galore, movies, some even have rock climbing walls and bowling alleys on board.

Have been on a cruise twice to the Caribbean. First time was a smaller ship, and yeah, it did get rough at times. But if you would like to see several places in a short time, that's the way to go.

Just stay out of the taxis on some of the islands. Those guys drive like drunk indians.
