No, it doesn't save his job, at least I hope it doesn't. Losing the Gold Cup was almost enough to get him fired; but telling the media a bunch of arrogant crap over the last year and not qualifying for the Olympics is enough to get him fired for sure. Rumor has it Bianchi is a possibility for future coach of el tri.

Mourinho is looking for a job.

But Bianchi would also be a good replacement.

I found it hilarious that before Bofo came in for the final few minutes, Zinha, Nery, and Guille were up front, which is what Hugo stressed he did not want when he first became coach. If you look at most national teams, there are naturalized players everywhere. Podolski and Klose were both born in Poland, yet play for Germany. Camoranesi was born in Argentina, but plays for Italy.

Both Hugo and the national team in general need to realize that Mexico will never accomplish anything with the superior mentality they have towards futbol. Just look at USA. They've repeatedly beat Mexico over the past 10 years, including quarterfinals of World Cup; they went into Poland yesterday and won 3-0 (WTF?); over the next couple of months they will play England at Wembley and Spain (IIRC). Mexico, on the other hand, travel all the way to Fulham to play ty against Ghana. This is why they can't even beat the likes of Guatemala, Honduras, Canada, etc when it really matters.

Great news. It's about time Hugo got run out of town. Chucho ain't bad, but I hope this is only temporary. Has he ever coached a senior squad? A big name is what's needed. Lets see Mexico spend some money on a big coach.

Sven-Goran Eriksson closer to Mexican national team than a return to Man City? If this is true, then Holy ! This guy is a winner

It's reality now. I think this is a very good thing for El Tri, but Eriksson has no idea what he's getting himself into. I wonder if he even speaks any spanish

That's what I initially thought, but Nery barely played good minutes throughout the season. Eriksson would start him one game, then bench him 2 or 3 straight games; sometimes without even coming on as a sub. Man City has great strikers, but I feel that they haven't seen the best of Nery yet.

From the couple of games I saw Nery at ManCity, he played very well. He is still a bit wild and way too left foot dependent, but he did play well and was basically their whole offense. It's like they gave him the ball and just get out of the way. He should pass more and I can tell his confidence was a bit shaken, but he's still a very promising talent and I'm sure Sven saw something in practice he liked.

But as for Sven this is great news

I have a feeling great things will happen in 2010

This is good news for El Tri.

I honestly think Eriksson is a good hire. I also thought that about Hugo Sanchez, but I guess that didn't pan out.

Yep, and at least Eriksson isn't spewing out the nonsense Hugo was before he even became coach. "If you want to win the World Cup, call me blah blah blah." He was great as a player, alright as the coach of Pumas, and terrible as coach of El Tri. Anyways, Eriksson has apparently already landed in Mexico City and will be named coach tomorrow; however it's not certain if he will be in Cali when Mexico plays Argentina on Wed (I still don't F'in know why Mexican home games are played in the States and not in Azteca).

It gets more hilarious at 2:27
