Tom Orsborn: No shootaround for Spurs this morning

MARINA del REY, Calif. - Spurs coach Gregg Popovich won't put his team through a shootaround this morning even though it faces an elimination game later in the day at the Staples Center in Los Angeles.

On the days they played the Lakers in Los Angeles last week, the Spurs held morning shootarounds at Santa Monica High School just a short drive from their team hotel in Santa Monica.

With the shootaround cancelled, the Spurs will enter Game 5 of the Western Conference finals without the benefit of either a practice or a shootaround since losing Game 4 on Tuesday night at the AT&T Center.

The defending NBA champions did not practice Wednesday. The team flew from San Antonio to Los Angeles late in the afternoon.

The Lakers hold a 3-1 lead in the best-of-seven series.

NBA teams typically use shootarounds to go over last-minute details the day of a game. The sessions usually last an hour and may include a film session and shooting drills.

Yeah, it's pretty much over. The Silver & Black should just enjoy their afternoon in Malibu or wherever they are. Bakersfield?

I wonder if this helps or backfires. I'll go with the former. These guys need all the rest they can get. They're vets and know what it takes to win an important game like tonight.

Well for whatever reason it is that the Spurs are just taking it easy before game time, I wish them all the best. They are and will continue to be my team, WIN or LOSE!

just stop with all the CIA garbage..

the things that have kept the Spurs from winning games this series aren't going to be corrected with a practice session today.

Sean Elliott was on ESPN this morning practically doing a post-mortem on the series and season. Pop seems to have lost his fire. The tea leaves do not look encouraging at this point.

Yet there's still an opportunity for a huge accomplishment here (4 les in 6 years) although the odds look daunting.

If Duncan goes all out, so do the Spurs IMO.

If Duncan "checks out" mentally, so do the Spurs.

Well, what can they possibly have to review of Game 4?

    How to grab a rebound?
    How to shoot the basketball?
How to get sell a foul in the closing minutes?

Spurs played great defense this entire series. Lakers came in averaging 112 points ppg and I think they've only eclipsed 100 points once this series. Kobe isn't getting to the FT and he hasn't really been involving his teammates last couple of games either.

Spurs are just missing shots and look dead tired, what would have been the point of having a shootaround this morning?

The whole series has boiled down to the Spurs being tired. Period.
The defense has been great, but in games 1 and 4 they lost their legs.
Nothing you can do but rest.

Apparently several of the players died of old age, so they didn't have enough to hold practice.
