Since you already have a degree..you have that part covered. You don't need to go to school for this stuff....if you're disciplined at all and can teach yourself....get the books, build a server, learn it on your own and take the tests. It really is that simple, now whether it's simple for you to do it is another story. Also, once you get proficient with the server software, specialize in something, ie.; MSSQL, Exchange, Active Directory etc etc. Concentrate on getting an MCP first...it's an easy cert to get but don't cheat yourself and take just any test to get it, take a 2003 test. Then go from there. BTW, if you want a good starting point...study for and take the N+.

Mouse - A+ is worthless unless you're going to be dealing with hardware a la a repair shop. I wouldn't even count on an A+ to get you a support role.

regardless of what blizz says A+ is not worthless mouse. I personally wouldn't waste time on it but it is a requirement for laptop/desktop techs at my place of employment.

there's quite a bit of consumer backlash about it, true. I know a few companies that have cut out some of their outsourcing.

I'm guessing the desktop/laptop techs do repair and troubleshooting....if so....

A+ is an entry level exam for people wanting to do repairs, upgrades, troubleshooting etc.....and as U2 said, some places may require it, however...it's been MY experience that it's worthless...or it has been for me anyways.

How much are you paying? Buy the Network+ book, get a couple of computers, install server on one and teach yourself. It's really not that hard to get the basics. Once you have concepts down the rest makes sense and is easier.

I get what you are saying but the ony problem is I am one of those that just can't strictly learn from a book. I need some kind of interaction with an instructor to accompany it. I will go check out some books this week just to get a feel for it so I don't go in blind any suggestions.

i dont think its the lack of interest as much as it is that its at SAC. I think if I were to have tried to take the courses anywhere else like UTSA or what not that the course would have gone on as scheduled but because its SAC not many people go there for IT. I am kind of fine with less student in the class so that way we can kind of drive the class in the direction we need to go in, but if they drop my next class in July because of the lack of students then I have no choice but to go some where else, so what are you leaning towards doing

    Thanks for the heads up!

I do know one thing, I run into at least one person a day who wants a website built! That seems to be where the Juice is right now.
Face it 10 years from now most people will know already how to make websites and laptops will be 200.00 each and people will rather buy new ones instead of fixing them like the VCRs, Looks like I will have to go back to being a waiter.

Hey DannyT what is the update on your friends LVN status did she find a job?

I had no idea people with an LVN certificate would not have hospitals knocking on your door. Every time i look in the paper they need LVNs.

    any updates?

yeah shes getting hassled because she lacks the year of expierence of being an LVN. Its like none of the Hospitals want to hire her because of that. She ended up settling for an nursing home spot down the street from the house so its cool for now. any one else had this trouble before

So you can't get an LVN job w/o LVN experience but you can't get LVN experience w/o and LVN job?

Thanks for all the comments and links guys. I went to Palo Alto and St. Philips today. I will probably hit up SAC within the next week. I am confused on what program to sign up for either the microsoft or cisco. Now Palo Alto offer only the cisco while St. Philips offers both. The Palo Alto program agrees with my work schedule and the advisor was very thorough while at St. Philips they don't have a schedule out yet but they have a real nice facility. The one at St. Philips said there was a lot more hands-on. Both advisors were very helpful and nice. So I have a decision to make any suggestions would be appreciated. I am maybe leaning towards the microsoft certification and see how it turns out and then for sure getting cisco certified.

No . This girl called me this afternoon trying to sell an ad on some ing internet yellow pages. Her Indian accent was so strong I could barely understand her, but her name was "Tiffany"...go figure. I told her "Tiffany, your job must really suck...you need to go to trade school and learn how to be a network administrator"

    Then I hung up.

Yeah Northwest Vista does have one but its a bit to far for me Palo Alto is the closest to me but the classes are offered at Kelly and St. Philps would be about the same as Kelly.
