They know this draft was meant to improve the Toros roster, maybe they needed to sell some tickets. Nothing like a first round pick to improve their fanbase...

I liked the Hill pick. Don't know about the Dragic pick. Sorta like the Gist pick.

The Spurs panicked. They targeted Batum and didn't have a well thought out backup plan.

Jeff Radjohns, a sportswriter in Indiana, predicted both Courtney Lee to Orlando AND Hill to the Spurs-- pretty impressive: http://blogs.indystar.com/pacersinsi...lee_going.html

Yes, because this is their first draft or the first time they have ever targeted a player only to have him drafted earlier.

    Give me a break.

He must have predicted that the Spurs would panic and not have a backup plan when Batum was drafted.

ok I'll admit I didn't like the draft picks at first but I'm willing to see what they can do.

All that talent and yet they have nothing to show for it...
Yeah your team is young, raw and have a "good" future ahead of them,
but there's other team that are proven and probably better than the blazers
    right NOW.

I'll laugh my ass off if Oden is a bust like I think he is.
I hear that they're not even leting G.O practice at all!!
Dude's so fragile that he'd make Jermaine O'neal look like an iron man.

Obviously, it's a lot of fun as a hoops fan to come to forums like this and talk about the draft... but, let's be honest: Pop and RC worked Hill out 2 times, and worked out other guys like Chalmers, CDR, etc... I know I didn't see Hill work in person....
And New Orleans, Detroit, Boston, Minnesota, Seattle, and Portland also passed on Chalmers, so it seems quite a few experts saw something that must have bothered them... If Hill plays 5-10 mpg next year, this pick is a success, in my opinion.

Didn't Jarryd Bayless looked absolutely pissed when he got picked?! I imagine he got a little happier later when the trade to Portland was announced.

Check it out and see how many draft picks by the Spurs have played a meaningful minutes in the NBA in the past 10 years? Let me answer that:

Manu and TP (pretty good picks)
Beno plays ok for the Kings.
Barbosa plays (and plays well) for the Suns.
Scola plays (and plays well) for the Rockets.

I don't know what the Pop and RC 'see' during these workouts but it might be time for some lasik surgery because other than TP and Manu, the only guys that they draft that are good play for other teams.

Look Pop is a great coach, can lead a team, gameplan better than almost anyone and has developed a culture of winning that led to 4 rings. RC works free agency to fill holes and manages the cap wisely BUT they suck at drafting! I really hope I'm wrong and they just got a steal in the draft that'll help Tony get some rest but I'm not counting on it.

Look at past drafts and see how many teams picking in the late 20s have a better track record than Beno/Barbosa/Scola/Splitter. The real problem the Spurs have is that they are not a team with a lot of money, and often have to make moves to save cash that a wealthier team, like Dallas, doesn't have to worry about. Still, they've got 4 rings and Dallas has zero.

I agree they are great picks IF you keep them and have them contribute to your team. None of them played for us so what's the point of saying they were any good?

So tlong, what do you think about Hairston as a Spur? I can't see him sticking here without some major roster moves.
