So does this mean your camping vacation is over?

Today I saw the doctor who has been treating my lateral epicondylitis in my left elbow. I have done 3 rounds of cortisone shots in the past year and and half. I will have an MRI done within the next few days(Workman's Comp is on the fast track program...not!) It has been discussed the next step being surgery.
I may have the "micro" tears smoothed out and may have about 1/8 of an inch of the bone removed under the tendon to prevent further inflamation or may have the tendon released from the bone and re-attached.
I would like to know who has had the surgery or if you know someone who has had the surgery. What has the recovery been like as well as the experience.
I am curious about the sucess rate of the surgery. I have read that only 5% of people with lateral epicondylitis require surgical repair and in 80-90% of the surgical cases have been shown improvement of the condition. Stats are nice, but you dear people of ST.com are what may bring comfort to a troubled mind.
Thanks.

I never had the surgery, mine wasn't that bad. I quit playing tennis and it got better. It still hurts every now and then but nothing too bad. They said I would have to have the surgery though if I continued playing.
Surgery wil be in Aug/Sept time frame.
Hey Marini, how bout you and I camp out over at RF's place and bring plenty of vodka and oxycontin!!![]()

if she no play tennis how she get elbow me wonders...![]()
LOL your probably right. Hey Rasho its kind of funny you asked about this in the Fittness thread I was asking about Tennis Elbow. I developed it around 5 years ago when I was power lifting. Well I started powerlifting around a year ago and just within the last few weeks it started up again. I know the best remedy is rest, but Im waiting for my vacation to rest. Is there anything else you recommend? Cold, hot treatments?
I've heard the success rate of that surgery is about 70%. My elbow would have to be in seriously bad shape for me take that risk.
I no play tennis dis is true. I had be lifting too many 300-400lb people. The company I worked for had got new strechers they weight 30-35 lbs more than the ones we had used. and the way they are designed, I had to eventually change the way I lifted the damn thing. Eventually the pain caused me to leave the EMS field.![]()
Rest, ice, rest. do you use any wrist or elbow braces?
Well I have an elbow brace that I bought several years ago but I havent used it since then. It only really hurts after I lift and not really during and the pain goes away a few hours after I stop.
Lucky you. I have pain whenever I grab anything...a coffee cup, a batch of folders, grocery bags, anything heavy is very painful.
I think you would do well with rest, naproxen and ice.
Ok, ill see how it feels today after softball.
I don't mind theoff jokes peeps, but the thread is serious though. I am on the fence about surgery in regards to sucess rate. This has a big impact on whether I return to my fire dept or I hang up the Fire/Rescue/EMS uniforms and live out the rest of my life as a Paramedic for a Plasma Center ONLY.
Well honey, you know thejokes only apply to Atrain, not you!

Well considering the jokes started before I posted then NO. Plus all guys know its all in the wrist so Rasho was doing it wrong.
What do you have to lose? Is your insurance covering it?
And ... could you be a nurse of some sort? Or at least wear a nurse's outfit?
My rotator cuff (I think -- the front part of the shoulder) was killing me a couple of weeks ago. I couldn't lift anything, even with my off hand. Moving forward hurt like crazy. And forget about slinging the softball -- I was thinking about going it left-handed for our remaining games.
I ended up resting it, and it feels better now. Still hurts ... hopefully I can hold out long enough to get into the Army (Nat. Guard) and let them pay for the surgery.
Buy her one.
I had surgery once before ... it wasn't exactly emergency surgery, but it wasn't elective either. I had to get something dislodged from somewhere. It was an accident -- it just fell in.
If we could get pics of Rasho's Fan in a nurse's outfit, miniskirt and all, I would gladly buy her one. For the good of the guys at ST!
(What was her size again ... 26?)
