This guy is Tyrus Thomas v2....though he might not have the questionable at ude.
He's a freak athlete and uses it well for defense and rebounding. But he, or the team that drafts him, is going to have to figure out how best to use him. If his future is primarily at the 3, he's going to have to improve his shooting range. If his future is at the 4, he's going to have to bulk up.
Tough to figure out his stock at this point because he's pretty far off from contributing, but like his tweener Jayhawk teammate from '07 (Julian Wright), I don't see him slipping out of the teens.
The Spurs certainly should not trade up for a guy like this -- greater needs for what we have to trade. I'd like Richard Hendrix or another PF, trade up for him in the early second instead.
I mean, if we were going for a PF.
If Spurs were going PF, the guy I'd love to see them draft is JJ Hickson. Kid reminds me of Al Horford and probably only needs a D-league season to get to that level.
I'm surprised he hasn't gotten more attention.
link-Darrell Arthur is back on the road, fresh off hiring Dallas-based agent Jerry Hicks. Arthur may or may not have had a hamstring or back injury depending on whom you ask, and seems to be back in contention for picks 12-18. He had a terrific workout in Indiana, but does not appear to be in the picture there unless both D.J. Augustin and Russell Westbrook are off the board, which is a possibility. Arthur will be in the Green Room on draft night.
So did the Spurs blow it by not taking Arthur with the 26?
I went into the draft thinking back-up point (most likely Chalmers) but when Arthur fell to us... I found myself hoping/expecting the Spurs to take him. He was the "value-pick" afterall, which is what the Spurs usually try to obtain.
To me Arthur is a 6'9'' L.Aldridge offensively, but his demeanor reminds me alot of a young R.Horry. He's athletic, has a quiet cool about him, and he's cold-blooded in the clutch.
If the Spurs really wanted Hill, they could have got him in the 2nd. I really don't think teams had Hill above Chalmers. Maybe they would have had to move up a couple spots or buy a pick in the 2nd., but it could have been done.
All I know is, those medical reports on Arthur better be legit. I mean if it turns out that it was a bunch of b.s..... Arthur is going to make the 26 teams that passed, look like absolute fools. I can't even imagine the kind of chip he'll be playing with.
Arthur would have been the best pick imo. Oh well...
darrell arthur was traded houston then memphis
Wasn't he the one with kidney problems?
I felt bad for this kid, but I am pulling for him to be an All Star. I am realy pulling for this guy.
I really don't understand why the Spurs didn't pick him. Complete miss imo.
hath frozen over. I agree with tlong.
He's nowhere near the athlete that Thomas is, not particularly close either.
Like Beasley, Arthur's actual height is about 6'7. Unlike Beasley, he doesn't have the 7 foot wingspan and has not shown the ability to score in traffic through double and triple teams.
It's surprising that he fell as far as he did. But even without kidney issues, I think anyone who had him near the lottery was overvaluing him.
