Spurs have basically tanked all their draft picks this year. I guess we'll have to wait for free agent season to see what Buford will do.

    God shut up.

You have absolutely no clue what your talking about.

    What does that even mean?

Well damn those commies. You know what they say. When you hate something so much you're only a hair away from being one yourself.

All three of the Spurs picks are likely to be cannonfodder by next year. But you can't really expect to get anything that great at the low 20's. I'm not thrilled with the Rockets picks either but oh well. The real moves will come in free agency and trades beginning on July 1st.

A nice move for the draft pick, the cash is nice, for a guy the Suns must have solely been targeting there. I value Hendrix or Hardin higher than Hairston but time will tell, I guess. I don't see Hairston sticking around very long.
I think the Spurs had to come away with at least one wing prospect after stating it as a clear need prior to the draft.

I do think Hairston has to "turn the switch on" to be a decent prospect, and even then he'll probably just be average....but they could've done worse.

And I went to bed thinking the Spurs drafted two PGs, a likely career-backup that will be receiving multi-year guaranteed dollars and another that couldn't help for a few years at least, and a combo forward with no discernable basketball skills....so this news was an improvement.

Hairston, 2009 second rounder, and $500k for a player who may or may not make it to the NBA?

That amount would be almost equivalent to a year's salary for an early second-rounder.

Was Pop or Buford holding a gun to Kerr's head when the deal was made?
Kerr was damn happy to do this trade, you can check it on the video of Suns war room around the 10:30min mark :
    mms://phxsuns.wmod.llnwd.net/a205/o2/draft08_080626.wmv

Suns were in deep love for Dragic and tried to trade up since the 34th pick.
Spurs use that desperation to get a great trade.

$500K + a future second round pick of an average team (Warriors) just to swap the 45th pick with the 48th pick is plain crazy.

That $500k almost guarantees the Spurs will be doing a lot of experimenting with non-guaranteed contracts, 10-day signings, and maybe even late-season signings, just like this past season.

That amount of wiggle room under the luxury tax level is going to be pretty useful.

Why? I don't think that impacts the cap in any way. Half a mil doesn't last too long in this league, anyway. More likely Holt buys another car.

    *shrugs*

They've publicly acknowledged now that they have glaring needs.

They probably recognized those needs needed to be addressed last season, as evidenced by the short and late-season signings they made. All the time trying to make sure they did not go over the lux tax limit.

Odds are relatively high that only one of the three draftees is signed for the season. That gives them one or two roster spots to experiment with.

Basically, until they can definitively say that they've addressed their needs, I fully expect them to continue to massage the roster.

As admittedly underinformed about the cap as I am, I'll be more than happy to consider myself wrong if that indeed is the case.

So the Spurs have like 4 selections in the 2nd round of the 09 draft.
Whose picks will they have? Is there a good website for finding a team's future picks?

What depth do you have a PG? I don't see it.
The first thing I thought of when I heard we were trading the best PG in Europe and (according to the Suns) the 2nd best PG in the draft:

We're bringing Spanoulis back to the NBA! Someone call Kill Bill Pana.

We have three second-rounders next year - our own, Houston's and Golden State's.

i dont know how accurate it is, but realgm has us with NO pick also. but, it says the least favorable of the spurs 2nd and NO 2nd will go to charlotte. that would be no 1sts, three 2nds.

How did this happen? What trade was involved where we got NO's pick, and then somehow it goes to Charlotte? I don't remember this trade, I guess it doesn't matter as we get the better of the 2 picks. Here's to hoping the Rockets, Hornets, and Warriors suck next year, I guess. Though it won't matter. Spurs restocked the Toros with this years draft, they can restock their European farm system with next years draft.

I had been reading around all day wondering how the our new Slovenian had transmogrified into a SF prospect.

NO traded their #2 next year to TOR, who subsequently traded it to us in the Rasho Nesterovic trade. We then sent it to CHA in the Melvin Ely trade.

Cool, thanks. So we have 3 2nd round picks next year, not 4? And we get the better of the 2 picks between ours and the Hornets?

2nd round picks aren't much, but they're good trade fodder.

Dragic -- the one thing I liked about this draft.

I remember feeling great for about 5 seconds when the Spurs drafted Barbosa -- then the same thing happened.
As good as Barbosa has been STATISTICALLY in the regular season, the guy is not worthy of cleaning Manu's dirty jock.

One of the biggest reason's the Suns have failed against the Spurs in the playoffs all these years is Barbosa.

So our front office took advantage of Phoenix in their man love of Dragic or whatever his name is.

I thought (after reading many recent posts in here) the FO was incapable of making intelligent moves.
