Great point lebomb. I am from Washington State and went to school near Spokane where Gonzaga is. Ever since Stockton first made it, the whole city of Spokane (including its sportscasters unfortunately) were gung ho over him and his success. I spent the better part of the 90's hating the Jazz's success when they had it against the Spurs.
But, as you pointed out, it was Stockton's tenacity and desire to succeed that made him so good. Plus, it helped his assist numbers that he had one of the top scorers in the history of the NBA that could hit jumpers, dunk, and hit free throws.
