Now THAT was an MB post of old! Kudos, MB.

    And nice reply, LJ.

If we started the season with that roster I'd be 7.5/10 on the happiness scale. A coup like Azubiuke or Artest is about the best we can hope for, but unlikely. Pietrus has potential, I wonder if Pop and the boys can tease it out of him?

The thought of having two new swingmen instead of one is very intriguing.

Don't forget, though. If they use Bonner in a S&T scenario, they'll probably need to replace him with another perimeter-shooting big. My choice is Najera. I'm not factoring in Horry into the equations in any way, shape, or form.

Bonner and a 2nd for Barnes? are you kidding me? Then we would have to go to trial for raping the Warriors....and with all the evidence, we would definitely be found guilty as charged.......BTW, I would do this deal in a heartbeat if it were available.

Then perhaps we can use some of those trade exemptions to get Pecherov.
He's unrestricted and depending on how things shake out in GS he may be expendable for them.

Then Horry takes the role as the seldom-used perimeter shooting bigman for next season. If you want Najera, then you'll have to use the MLE and that would mean whoever you could land in a trade would take the Finley role. Then maybe you use your LLE to retain or replace Barry.

Do you really think Najera would command that much? If so, I wouldn't dare jepoardize bringing in Pietrus for that. He would be the first priority.

But seriously, If we were able to get Barnes for Bonner and a 2nd, that would be absolutely sweet........but could we afford Barnes and Maggette? If so, wouldn't that make Udoka expendable?

Yeah, Udoka and Barnes are somewhat redundant. If the Spurs lose Barry then I think it would be preferable to replace him with more of a pure shooter (ie Giricek). Especially when you consider that the Spurs will likely be losing Finley as well.

If you manage to deal Bonner for a wing, then maybe you are able to re-sign Barry without using the LLE. Maybe. Then you could perhaps use the LLE to bring in Javtokas. Of course, that could limit Mahinmi's opportunity to get big minutes early next season.

Well think of it this way, if we have Ian and Javtokas next year.....they will both get NBA experience during games and in practice against the likes of Duncan, Horry, Oberto, and Thomas....our two young Bigs couldn't have a much better group of veterans to learn from. Also, after next year, Horry and Thomas would be off the books and the two yutes could get ample playing time.

however, you never answered my question about Udoka. If we were able to get Maggette and Barnes, would Udoka most likely be traded?

Who is more likely to make the roster: Sanikidze or Javtokas?

Barnes and Udoka are redundant, so perhaps so. I think the Spurs need more of a shooter as the 5th swingman than another slasher type. But the Spurs might be able to pull off a swingman rotation of:

    Starters
    2 Maggette
    3 Bowen

    Bench
    2 Ginobili
    2/3 Barnes
    2/3 Udoka

I don't see Barnes coming to SA for the LLE. The Spurs would have to find some kind of S&T for him.

Anyways, let's cross our fingers, hope the stars do align, and Maggette can't get any better offers than the MLE.

At this point, luck will factor greatly into who the Spurs are able to get. If someone like Philly or the Clippers don't get the guys they are targeting, they'll be able to go after Maggette or J R Smith and offer more than the MLE.
I still think the most important thing is to get some young guys and not get shut out of free agency. If the Spurs land two non-glamorous guys like Pietrus and Delfino, then they've got the first 2 or 3 months of the season to let them fight for minutes with Hairston, Udoka, Bowen, and whoever else might be around. At the very least, they give the Spurs trade assets. And no question: Hill, Pietrus, and Delfino are all young & athletic, which almost all of us agree was the first off-season objective.

Supposedly they've already offered the LLE to Delfino.

Philly gets Smith. Warriors decide to rebuild if they can't sign one of Davis, Brand, and Arenas. Grizzlies do nothing.

    MLE or bust.

According to another poster on this forum, yeah. They posted a link to the article somewhere. I believe it's an Argentinian article, I'll try to find it.

Sorry if it's dupe, but according to argentinian newspaper Ole:

    http://www.ole.clarin.com/notas/2008.../01706524.html

the Spurs already offered Delfino a two years contract. His agent is studying it, since he's looking forward for a 3 years deal.

The article also says the Spurs are interested in Pietrus, James Jones, Posey and Quintin Ross; and that the Cavs, Magic and Khimky of Russia are also interested in Delfino.

Ok, it might not be the LLE, but most were speculating on the Delfino thread that it would likely be the LLE, since it is a 2 yr contract.

    Very nice written MB....

I am really hoping we can get Magette this time. JR Smith is the second option since Childress will going nowhere. I heard we just offer Delfino 2 years contract as well. Hopefully this year FO is serious in upgrading the team. I just dont get it why the we should pay Thomas $5 million a year for 35 years old. He just a body bag who defend the other team bigman, his jump shoot was not significant last season and hes getting older as well. I dont think his accuracy will improve. Is big man market really that bad??? Well, if no one's better or cheaper available then he's the ing last option..$5 mill for more than 35 years old? NO
