VAUGHN BACK FOR ANOTHER YEAR. SOME ONE PUT A BULLET IN MY HEAD.

SAN ANTONIO -- Spurs guard Brent Barry opted out of his contract and became a free agent on Tuesday.

Barry was part of a February trade with Seattle that sent him, center Francisco Elson and a 2009 first-round draft pick to the SuperSonics in exchange for forward Kurt Thomas. Barry, 36, re-signed with the Spurs in March.

Barry, a career .407 3-point shooter, averaged 7.1 points in 31 games with the Spurs last season and 5.2 points during the playoffs.

Jacque Vaughn, 33, who has backed up point guard Tony Parker, exercised his option, meaning he'll be under contract with the Spurs through next season.

Free agents who were with the Spurs last season include forward Robert Horry, who will turn 38 in August and last week told a Houston television station that he wants to play a 17th season, 35-year-old guard Michael Finley and Thomas, who is also 35.

Vaughn will be back, but he'll be the third string point guard. Pull the trigger yourself.

he was perfect as the third string PG/security blanket in 2007. When Beno failed as the #2 option, Vaughn stepped up and represented a fairly large upgrade in that role.

he's affordable so no reason not to put him in that slot again.

Vaughn is a very solid defensive point guard who knows his role and will be rather valuable with a rookie point joining the team as the backup.

He's cool. I don't know why you hate our 3rd stringer so much.

We knew this. Old news. Vaughn is a solid backup, especially at the 3rd string.

That doesnt deserve to be on championship team. He took minutes away from Udrih, Stoudemire and now he will probably take minutes away from Hill if he stuffs up. Its happend before and it will happen again. There's not one thing i like about his ass game. He fukin makes me sick.

    Yea he does.
He took minutes away from Udrih, Stoudemire.
    That's because he was better.
and now he will probably take minutes away from Hill if he stuffs up. Its happend before and it will happen again. .
Pop is all over George Hill. He's gonna give Hill some extra chances, if not the same amount of chances he gave Beno, which is just enough for Hill to prove he's the backup.

Great signing. He's a capable backup, great in the room, excellent tutor for the new backup PG (why do we have to spell it out for you people?) and coach-in-training.

I guess the Spurs should retain Stoudamire to instruct Hill on the finer points of airport weed smuggling.

I don't see why you say great signing, he was already signed. Anyways, I agree with you completely

He understands the game very well. Probably the best situation that Hill could be in, with Vaughn as a mentor/coach to him. He may not have an explosive offensive game, but I think he surprised alot of us when he hit some jump shots this year. He hustles, and gives it his all on every possession. Not to mention, he's an excellent defender.

I would love him as a Spurs assistant after he's done.

Your the dumb one for actually rating a garbage player like JV. I dont give a if you guys see him as good mentor or 3rd string point guard. He's never been fukin good always been a fukin garbage man. When he's on the court its 4on6. I hope Duncan smacks him one. Do me a favour what about i post you JV adress so you can put him out of his fukin misery.

    Exactly,

Hes also setting himself up for a shot at an assistant coaching spot after hes done next season.

No reason at all to hate on Jacque Vaughn.
