Two-year, $12M for Chris Duhon? Good luck keeping him sober, New York.
Duhon To Sign With Knicks
Jul 04, 2008 3:27 PM EST
Point guard Chris Duhon has agreed to sign with the Knicks.
The Knicks have reportedly given Duhon a two-year deal starting at the full mid-level exception. The total contract value will be approximately $12 million.
"I am just excited, I am ready to get to work for the Knicks," Duhon said. "It's a big stage, playing in New York. It's something every player in the NBA wants."
"Chris could have shopped himself around more, but in the end, he wanted a fit where he felt comfortable and he knew what kind of opportunity he would be getting," Duhon's agent, Kevin Bradbury said. "He wasn't worried about trying to find more money on the market or anything like that. He wanted the right situation, and this just felt like the right situation."

that sucks, the only free agent that can help us win is maggette so if we don't get him might as well not even make the playoffs, it'll just be wasting time, cause these other free agents suck ass, might as well bring back finley
Holy crap, I just realized that. The full MLE on Duhon. WTF is up with this, first Beno, then Diop, now Duhon? I know this FA market isn't impressive, but damn.

Who knows... this could play into the Spurs' hands.
Maggette now knows that he wasn't Orlando's first choice.
Then again, Maggette will now say, "I'm worth way more than the MLE if that is what Duhon recieved".

Hopefully the Magic follow the recent trend and give someone that's undeserving the full MLE.
I think Maggette has still chosen Spurs over Magic and that's why Magic was trying to get Duhon who was their plan B.
Spurs have now to fight with Warriors but it will a near impossible fight to win given that Warriors have the money on their side.
If i am Maggette, i sign with the Spurs, the most clever franchise in all NBA.
I win 2 les with them, i improve my defense, my team play...
Then 2010, i am 30, a UFA and i sign a 4/5 years contract with the team of my choice (Spurs or whatever) for 13/15 mil/year.
The Spurs ARE the right choice for the les AND the money.
Marbury is trashing his own house right now.
The Knicks, overpaying someone?! Sweet consistency!
There might be a scenario now where the Knicks waive Marbury to save on luxury tax (like Cuban did with Finley) and someone like Orlando takes a chance on him for a year...
This is good news for the other mid-level free agents-- if Beno, Diop, and Duhon all get the full MLE, it's hard to argue against guys like Gomes, Delonte West, and Pietrus also getting it.
First was Beno Udrih to get the full MLE.
Yes, of course.
Marbury to the Warriors?
Elaborate.
Probably since he'll be cut soon and the Warriors have no PG.
chose NYC cause it is easier not to be recognized when going out to get drunk
just a thought, but maybe golden state wants to invest into a "big time" PG since baron davis is gone.
Marbury is still a very good player and can do good in Nellies system so you never know.
Are they going to buy him out?
Oh yea, I forgot about the possibility of Marbury being waived. I could see Golden State working well with Marbury.
if they can i guess they would trade him.
maybe for a Stephen Jackson?
just a thought people
just because duhon signs with the knicks doesnt mean the magics all of a sudden have depth. they still need to address their bench.
The Knicks are way over the cap and in the luxury tax, so in reality they will be paying about 24 million dollars for Chris Duhon's two years. Waiving Marbury would save them 21.9 million (his salary next year, which by itself is shocking) next year in lux tax, making this signing at least close to a wash financially...
Not necessarily, since they can get under the Luxury tax next year. It will be closer to $18M for Duhon, since they will only have to pay the dollar-for-dollar tax for the first year of his contract.
Marbury would make sense in a Warriors uniform and playing that helter-skelter style of basketball.
do it Warriors
