I think thats a great deal for the Cubs. If Harden stays healthy, Cubs will be in contention easily. Gaudin is pretty good as well.

The Harden thing would seem to equal out to Ben Sheets in Milwaukee. When healthy, Harden is probably better, but he's injured just a little more often than Sheets. Still, it's a very good move by the Cubs in a division that might get tighter. If the Cubs' offense continues to be as productive as it's been, though, and that staff is improved by Harden and Gaudin, it's going to be hard to catch them (2nd in runs scored; 7th in fewest runs allowed).

I think Gaudin is actually a nice throw in here -- he shores up the Cubs pen pretty nicely and gives them a guy who can make a spot start if needed.

    +1

If healthy, the Cubs suddenly become very dangerous. They've been off-track a bit, but even without Soriano they are playing .500 ball. With Harden, not to mention Gaudin, this staff becomes easily one of the best in baseball. If they can get Marmol straightened out, I think the Cubs have to be the favorites in the NL. Best offense in the league behind Texas, plus one of the best pitching staffs in the league. Scary.

Good time to be a Cubs fan right now.

I know it sounds weird. But it happens once every 20 years or so.

Harden looked lethal today. If he keeps that up, the Cubs easily have a top 3 rotation in baseball.

Yes he is good but he is way too injury-prone. That is why the A's got rid of him because they wanted to get some value out of him when he was healthy. There is no telling when he will get hurt again.

You see a lot of one-sided trades in baseball. That's what happens when there's no salary cap -- it costs so much to field a team that GMs decide they need to salary dump in huge amounts.
