Wright rebounds well, gets steals and blocks. He is a pretty good defender but the only knock on him right now is that he is too inconsistent with his offense.

Spurs do not need offense as bad as everyone is saying, if they tighten up their defense to the way it was a few years ago, then the extra misses do not hurt because other teams are missing as well...

Would you rather have this guy instead of Pargo? Definitely longer and fills more of the gap we have at the 3. He's looking for a longer contract - I honestly don't know what length of a contract Miami offered him, but after they just Diawara there's a supposed conflict of his playing time. He's 22

Well the thing is that Wright's qualifying offer of 2.9 M is more than the Spurs have to offer. So it would have to be through a trade. I would love to have him and Pargo.

He's restricted...we can only offer $1.9 per year, he already has a qualifying offer of $2.425 mil....sorry, not gonna happen this year unless we can somehow sucker Miami into taking Bonner.

I thought Miami had said they definitely planned to keep him. With Gist gone, he's worth a look. I heard the Spurs were interested in him a year ago.

They offered him 2.4, but he's holding out for a longer contract. I'm just curious how long of a contract Miami offered him. I understand they planned on keeping him, but why would they sign Diawara too?

Educate me - if we offer him a 2 yr deal and Miami only offered him a 1 yr deal, even though they offered him 2.4 for the 1 yr they would have to match the 2 yr 1.9 mil?

The qualifying offer of 2.4 or 2.9 M, which ever it is, is a one year offer. If he accepts that he will become an unrestricted free agent next year. So as of now, the Heat have only offered him a one year deal in that ball park that we know of.

It is the first year of the deal that teams have to worry about. That is why you see a lot of teams that go after restricted free agents "front-load" the contracts to make them more expensive in the first year.

Could we sign and trade finley and use the trade exception (worth $1,847,000 I think?) to get D Wright?

No, you can not combine a player exception with another player in a trade.

Well the Heat just signed Diawara. Now they have:

    Wright
    Jones
    Diawara
    Lasme

at the SF Positon. I am sure they explore a trade with one of these players. Unfortunatly I don't see anyone on the Spurs they might be interested in. Maybe Oberto or Mahinmi because the lack depth at the C position but that would make the Spurs even smaller which I would not like.

Vaughn and Bonner for Wright is the only play the Spurs have to make. I'm not sure it gets them anyway, but that's their play.

Miami wont let him go, and spurs wont sign him to long term deal so they would lose him after next season if they did trade for him.

If a few years the guy will avg 20ppg 5rpg or better.

Miami Heat reaches terms with Dorell Wright
    By Ira Winderman | SunSentinel.com
    8:30 PM EDT, August 20, 2008

Forward Dorell Wright has agreed to terms on a two-year deal with the Miami Heat, with his contract expected to be signed later this week.

Wright, who has been everything from a starter to an end-of-bench reserve for the Heat since being selected with the No. 19 pick in the 2004 NBA Draft, was a restricted free agent, with the Heat having the right to match outside offers.

With little outside interest, Wright will receive a deal that will start at roughly the $2.9 million qualifying offer he had been extended by the Heat for 2008-09.

Despite starting 34 of his 44 appearances last season before being sidelined by a knee injury, Wright, 22, likely will have to battle for playing time on a roster that has been bolstered at small forward by the offseason additions of 3-point specialist James Jones and defensive specialist Yakhouba Diawara.

Veteran Shawn Marion, who was acquired at midseason, likely will go into camp at the top of the depth chart at small forward.

Once Wright signs, it will leave the Heat with 13 players under guaranteed contract for next season: Centers Mark Blount and Joel Anthony, forwards Wright, Jones, Diawara, Marion, Udonis Haslem, Stephane Lasme and Michael Beasley, and guards Dwyane Wade, Daequan Cook, Marcus Banks and Mario Chalmers.

That total does not include center Alonzo Mourning, who is recovering from a knee injury, and guard Chris Quinn, who has the right to accept a qualifying offer.

The return of Wright also impacts the roster chances of forward Kasib Powell, who has been extended a non-guaranteed qualifying offer by the Heat.

Teams are limited to 12 active players per game and a maximum of 15 players under contract at the start of the regular season.

Didn't DRob4Eva claim that Wright was going to get a $60M contract?

Didnt claim that I just repeated what his agent is asking for. I do beleive if he keeps improving he will get the 60 he wants.

He was stuck this year, no one really has the money to offer him and Miami would match low ball offers so he had no leverage.
