The list I posted was the one released this afternoon. Of course that may change again by the time the games start.

The coaching staff looks very good. Budenholzer and not Newman is a great choice. Having Snyder there will also help out a lot, since he probably knows the most about Mahinmi's game of the whole staff.

The thing I don't like about the roster is that there aren't any centers on the team. The starting lineup should be:

    C - 7 Footer
    PF - Mahinmi
    SF - Gist
    SG - Hairston
    PG - Hill

Mahinmi is going to have to play next to an interior big on the Spurs. Gist will likely make or not make the team depending on whether he can transition to small forward. Hairston has the most value to the team as a shooting guard.

The only way to keep the optimal lineup is to start Fuqua at center ... but he's not really good enough for summer league level. I'm going to guess we'll either see this starting lineup:

    C Mahinmi
    PF Gist
    SF Hairston
    SG Nwaelele
    PG Hill

or we'll see the main four players start most of the games and then rotate in the fifth starter and shift accordingly.

True plus it gives Snyder an early look at Hairston and Gist, who could both end up playing the whole year in Austin.

If Javtokas were to join the SL team, that would've been great.

Tolliver was a fair player in the D-League last season, and the African PFs can be forced to play center to allow some time for Gist at SF if they want.

So does playing out of position for all these players really give them the chance to show what they have to offer?

I think the only one it might matter for is Gist, and at this point it would do more with his defensive assignments. If he's going to be made an SF, it's going to happen in Austin.

For the Gist it will. Hairston shouldn't have a problem sliding over to the three, but it would be better for Gist to play the three and Hairston play the two.

IIRC, Nwaelele had to serve a two-year commitment. If that's the case, he still has one more year. That would mean he's on leave.

Standard commitment out of the Academy is 5 years, not sure why it would be different for athletes...

Of course, they are "force shaping" a number of young lieutenants, so he might have gotten lucky...

Not a lot of size on that roster. Shades of things to come, perhaps.
I really do think the Spurs are toying with the idea of using Gist (if he shows well in SL and camp) as their "combination 4" to defend the longer, mobile players such as Dirk Nowitzki, and then still allow the Spurs to play small on offense.

    (Yeah...I self-quoted )

I am excited to watch summer league. All I want to watch is Ian. We should not get to up or down on anything we see in summer league though. Some players do better when you put them with better players, some do worse. So it will be hard to tell how anyone would do with the Spurs full team.

I'm a big fan of Maric (Australian) ... much better than Jawai, kinda hoping he doesn't get a contract, because I'd like to see him sign for my team in Australia!

How good was the compe ion in Turkey that he played against? At 6-9 & 245lb he has ok size. He played for a small school and went undrafted. Was a standout at the Orlondo Camp in 2006. Played a little in Israel. Supposedly has a bit of an outside shot now. The interesting thing about him is that going all the way back to HS he has been an outstanding rebounder.

Edit: Unless he had a growth spurt after his Orlando Draft measurements, he is actually 6'6.5" w/ 8'.8" standing reach. His 30" vert isnt that great either. On the plus side he is really strong, getting 26 on the bench press.
