The Red Rocket: when he first arrived in San Antonio, many (including myself) were excited about the Horryish role he could bring to the team, and he proved multiple times he has the hustle to be a solid contributor, especially if he is knocking down 3pters. I will also admit I was glad they gave him a contract, although it might be biting us in the ass now, because it seemed like he had finally gotten a modi of what our system is about.

Here's what I ask Spurfan: is this guy going to find a way back into the rotation behind Tim/Ian/KT if we resign him? Or do the spurs bring a vet like Horry back for one last swing while he and his $3 million contract rot on the end of the bench as the 5th big?

I know I'm probably in the minority here, but I'd love to see Pop give this guy another chance.

I think he can help the team, but last year he could not get it going consistently. I know he will put of the effort. Maybe next year will be better.

This is the Horry of today, not of 2002 or even 2005.

Get real and accept the Rocket.

Do you think he will find consistent minutes? If Pop played him 15-20 mins every night, this guy would produce far more than Horry could at this stage - and unlike Horry, he's already bound to the spurs by contract.

Trade him for Brian Cook. At leat Cook can say he's injured as to the reason he doesn't play.

thank you for starting this thread because i didnt want to waste my time doing so.... All you Bonner haters can suck a . Bonner has been doing exactly what we brought him in for he just gets in the way of PT. One thing that Bonner is not is clutch... as long as we're not sending him out there to try to win games on last second shots then he will be fine. I am sick and tired of little kids on this forum acting like they know about basketball.

At this point, we are better off with Bonner than Horry. Horry has lost it, he was turning down wide open looks and passing up the ball. He really hurt us when he was on the floor.

I can obviously can tell there is a majority that dislikes Bonner, but has he really been giving a chance to play regularily. Again, this goes back a couple years but when the Spurs aquired him he averaged 42% from the 3pt line in two seasons with the Raptors. For 6-10, the guy can shoot. If we're stuck with paying him 3mil per season for the next two years they might as well give him some minutes to see.

Not to mention he gets under guys skin. Loook what he did to that kid on the Pacers... dude wanted to murder bonner last year. Bonner is all hustle and only baby spurs fans are too stupid to see that he's the type of player we need (that we can realistically have)

I couldn't help but start a thread with all the Bonner bashing. I've always liked what he brought to the team: hustle, energy, rebounding, and a spot up 3. Instead of giving him playing time, Pop continued to stick with Dinosaur (who employs the exact same skillset), and we see now exactly what he brings to the table: a locker room presence.

Bonner could be a season long contributor over Horry, who gave us a 3rd of last season and contributed nothing in the PO. It was downright painful watching him on both defense and offense.

Poor Matt Bonner. There is no other 12th or 13th guy in the league that so haunts the imaginations of his team's fans. I can still see situations where he could be useful, like when playing against teams that have defensive minded PFs or Cs who don't score much. Having him play beside Duncan could help draw the D away from the paint. He saved the Spurs some money in the Rasho deal, and he's insurance in case of injuries. And I hear he is very kind to children, and has pretty good hygiene.

Horry hasn't even resigned with us yet. So why do we keep bringing this up?

I don't understand why people are so down on a player that has never really been given a consistent chance to prove his worth.

Is there anyone on this team that tries/works harder than Bonner with the little bit of playing time that he sees?

I like him, and I hope Pop will let him see the court more often this go around.
If he can't get it done, then let him go.

Maybe we should take advice about Bonner the 'loser' from a proverbial one, at least on these forums.

no doubt bonner > horry in 08-09. but thats a moot point because horry wont be on the team next year.

a lot of people are talking about bonner's hustle and energy, but really, i havent seen it since december. January and February, that strech where horry was still injured and we didnt have thomas and we were losing games left and right and everyone was cursing the scola trade, that was bonner's big chance and he blew it- not by missing shots, but by playing scared, tentative basketball on offense, being a turnstile on D, wasting his fouls on cheapies instead of getting his money's worth, and no rebounding whatsoever.

i think most spurs fans are accustomed to our players bricking shots, bonner's offense is really not the problem. the problem is that he has to rebound, and he has to be semi-decent on D. if he isnt bringing the hustle on that end of the floor, he's going to fail on both counts because he isnt a natural at it. and I for one feel that, outside of the first 2-3 months in the season, he wasn't bringing the hustle and was just getting abused on the defensive end, be it rebounds or just staying in front of his man.

a big man that can shoot 3's is valuable, provided he can play like a big man on the defensive end. if he cant cover other bigs than he is essentially just a tall 3 pt specialist, and not a bigman that shoots 3's, which is what Duncan needs.

i think thispego, bonner and horry should all retire somewhere else.......truth of it all is..i really dont see anybigs out there coming in and making a difference(unless we make some kinda 3way miracle team trade)...i personally am tired of seeing horrys bricks, lack of defense, hey the guy is old, imo not even a 3rd option in these nba days...bonner im not sure what happened to him, but i dont see his future looking to bright(not in pops doghouse).....doesnt leave us with much after that as far as bigs go...lets hope the FO has something in mind cos imo these bigs are better off playing for teams with no future in making the PO's soon.....and i really wouldnt expect kurt back..not with the lakers losing ronnie and them needing another solid big....our bigs could be in for a very long season........

Not only that, KT would cost them similar money. Probably not 4 yrs/17 mil, but close.
