Spurs Will take it
VS
DATE: 7/16/08

BROADCAST: NBATV
Regardless of the struggles, I like what I am seeing from Ian, Hill and Gist. Hill really looked like he was trying a little too hard to make things happen last night and struggled because of it. Let's see if he adjusts some tonight and lets the game come to him a little bit more rather than trying to force the issue. Speaking of forces...Gist is looking like one so far. Honestly, I think we need a player like him even more than we need a player like Hill. I hope he keeps it up and can make the team.
According to NBA.com, this game should be on NBATV. I will miss it because of work, but I've got the DVR ready.![]()

In addition to our young players, this gives Spurs fans a chance to watch Wilson Chandler and Renaldo Balkman, who've both been mentioned as trade exception targets in the past.
Balkman is playing center for the Knicks. This should be an interesting test for Ian Mahinmi. First, he'll have to chase Balkman around on D. Second, I'm not sure he can out quick Balkman. He'll need to establish low position and use some of low block power moves. I took in two Knick games last season, and in one game Balkman played affective D against LaMarcus Aldridge, so I think this could be difficult for Ian if he's not smart about how he plays it. I had baseline seats and saw up close that although undersized Balkman was gritty and tough as a post defender, even if it is unnatural for him.
thus far with 2 games under our SL belts the only thing that worries me is ians play......he plays like fab( scared, hesitant, unsure ) those are qualitys that make choke artists(regardless of their numbers after the game)...we cant afford another choke artist big
Over/under on posts proclaiming Hill and Mahinmi saviors or busts after this game?
I'd set the line at about 30.
Knicks have a strong team with Chandler, Roberson, Balkman, Gallinari and Collins. Spurs need to play alot better then they have the first two games to win this one.
have my Tivo ready since stuck at work...
I'm going to watch this![]()
sweet, i want see the european guy
the big is gonna heat it up.
Why is everyone not mentioning Hairston? He has looked the most effective at getting to the rim and finishing outside of Gist. He has good handles and nice size, I would not sleep on him yet. He seems like one of those guys whom people confuse his in control demeanor for lack of fire.
He has not looked great, but looks solid athletically and shows some nice tools.
He looks invisible on the court, and looks to give up on defense. It's possible he may slowly show more in the games ahead, but at this point, he hasn't shown anything that would make him stick. Green and Tolliver have both shown more, and I don't think either is an NBA player.
Off all the draft picks it's obvious that Hairston has done the worst, and although he's finished at the basket nicely in the last game, he's unmotivated on defense and looks like he's not gonna make it.
For sure. He has played the worst. But even then, he still shows NBA tools imo. He does not looked overwhelmed, just passive.
Yea that first move he had to the rim yesterday was nice. I think he's solid and would be even better with a little more development. Gist was the " " these last two games! I love his game. Also there is no way in that I'm gonna give up on Hill just because of one bad SL game.
Those "NBA tools" are why he was drafted, but he needs to show more than that to make the team. Right now, he may not even get a training camp invite.
He'll get a training camp invite regardless.

I'm stoked.
Is it at 3 or 3:30 CST?
3 Pm Cst
What channel and what time?
I disagree. I never said he will make the team. I just said that everyone is saying: Ian, Hill and Gist and leaving Hairston out. He looks like he can play at this level was my point, he looks like he belongs. He will get an invite, but unless he turns those tools into weapons, he will not make the team.
I'm not sure how to argue back because you're the only one who thinks he looks like he belongs. None of us have the same decoder glasses that you're wearing. You're probably right about the training camp invite. It's too early for the Spurs to say mea culpa. Maybe Hairston will get an invitation to play for the Toros a la Marcus Williams.
