He's decent, is all. People are saying he's much better than decent. Watch his kick-out passes. Rarely are they close to where the player' would want the pass. Too often the player has to shift position in order to collect the pass to shoot. He looks like trouble with passes into the post, too.
Seriously, you need to give this a ing rest. He's been the primary ball handler and playmaker for a team loaded with inexperienced guys playing against teams taht have a lot of everyday NBA players. First of all, they're 2-1. In addition, in case you can't do the math, they've played three games. You have a vested interest in seeing him fail because you've attached yourself to a position way too early, which is stupid. Unless you are advocating that the Spurs just cut him from the SL team now and admit defeat, then shut up, because we all know your position on it; you aren't adding anything new to the conversation.
Who just passed the ball to Powell? THat was a good setup.
Ahhh, it was Mahinmi, well done.
As has been stated numerous times. This is a new role for him. He's having to become a point guard so it's going to be a trail by error process for him.
Re-side the post you quoted as I added some information.
To add to this. Bayless in just two games so far and in only 68 minutes has 8 turnovers and only 2 assists.
Mahinmi went hard to the hole. I hope he develops that. With a little mean he can be a dangerous NBA player.
Wow, the sky-hook from Mahinmi. Nice.
Ha Ha, nice dunk with the offensive board. Mahinmi is showing some hustle.
hill just needs more experience playing with the big boys, and the summer league is the big boys compared to the summit league, he may not be knocking down shots but he's rebounding well, he doesn't turn it over a lot as some one said already, and he gets to the free throw line, he'll get better, even the coaches said before the summer league started that hill might not come out and do that great but he has the rest of the summer and training camp to get better, wait till he's playing with a steady team of tim, manu, bowen, and tony
gist has been doing great from the 2 games that i saw and the box score of today, i think he's a lock to make the team, not sure if he'll be in the rotation but he's proven he's gonna be a good player
whatever hairston gives us is gravy, we got a 2nd round pick and cash out of him, i'm not expecting big things from him at all
I'm stating a position, no need to get upset. I've said repeatedly that I like him, but simply that he wasn't worth the draft pick at that point. This could be a grievous error. I'm sur ehe will be serviceable in some capacity. His rebounding and defense are good, and he's a decent enough ball-handler. Good enough a point to stretch for? Not on your life.
Again, there are those with a need to talk up the Spurs' offseason moves in a desperate attempt to make the nonexistent something like s om. There are others, like me, who see a different story.
Hill and Gist also got their turnovers under control from last night. Another good sign for the both of them.
Tolliver is only listed as 6'8. I wonder if he's big enough to play the 4, he's seems to slow for the 3.
I thought that was someone else. Who's number 35? I have a feeling that isn't Maric.![]()
Malik Rose at a towering 6'6 plays the 4. Charles Barkley at 6'5 played the 4. In the NBA, sometimes it's not how big you are but how big you play.
Hill will be fine. Look at Nate Robinson dude is already in teh NBA and has 2 years under his belt and he is sucking ass.
hey guys, at least Hill guards N.Robinson decently and has shown a better performance on ball handling.
Ian has a nose for the ball and has good touch. He's not much of a defender at this point, but he has a much better offensive game than I realized.
Gist is hustle and has a nice jumper. I like this Kid and want to see what he does in preseason.
Hill unfortunately has a ways to go. I'm pulling for him, but gotta say I'm disappointed in his lumbering style.
I just finished the delayed feed. I like what I see from Mahinmi and Gist. 15 minutes of pt says the Hairston ship has sailed. And, despite my not wanting to overreact and remain optimistic, 2-25 is worrisome for Hill. No question, he's 3rd on the depth chart right now and needs minutes at the point in Austin.
True, but I don't think he's that talented, yet. He's a rookie, so it wouldn't hurt to see what he can do in the preseason.
I clearly agree that the Spurs reached for him for whatever reason, and that he's certainly not inspiring any confidence by some of his stats, but he's a guy who knows how to score who's being asked to work on facilitating, which is not his strength. You should be really impressed that he's struggling the way he has but is still doing what he's clearly been instructed to do. He's been the best player on every team he's ever been on to this point, so you know damn well that he could go out there and take 25 shots in a game without any problem, but he's not doing it. If you don't think that's by design, with Pop sitting six rows up watching him, then you don't know Pop very well.
The point is, whether or not he's worth the draft pick absolutely cannot even be guessed at right now, because he's doing something he's relatively bad at and is sticking to it just so he can learn the position. We all know you are down on him because he's not jacking up shots. We get it. You don't need to re-state it every half a page. If he sucks, we'll find out soon enough. You're on record as having said it before many of us, if that's what you want, so like I said, give it a rest.
The thing with Ian is, his game looks almost sloppy at times but then you look at the stat sheet and he's filled it up with near double doubles.
Gist IS the real thing. His first game wasn't a fluke, his second game wasn't luck and his third game just shows what type of player he is.
