Maybe if he'd stop getting drunk and spitting on hookers he'd get a few offers.

I haven't heard about him spitting on hookers. Is this some strange Marv Albertish sex thing?

I really don't think the Spurs have any sense of humor about him getting another weapon arrest this summer, no matter how cheap he might come. And he better not try that "two cups of wine" excuse, either.

if spurs flame out next year
    smith takes the offer
spurs could offer him the full mle next year
    if smith improves this season
And is that a J.R. Smith haiku?

will work out well for the Nuggets if this is true. Either sign him longer term for cheap, or let him play for the qualifying offer and save money now. Next year, if he becomes a UFA, the Nuggets will have much more flexibility coz AI will be off the books and they can re-sign JR if he doesn't bomb out.

No-one wants JR because he is close to the most selfish headcase in the league and a total cancer, Ricky Davis Mk II.

He will gladly never wear a Spurs uniform, unless freezes over and he proves that he can help a team to WIN.

I wanted JR to join as much as anybody else but in adding him or Artest I guess the FO figured they'd be selling their souls for a few extra points. What makes the Spurs a great team is that they don't let a-holes ruin their culture. So JR can go club hoppin and beat on women somewhere else.

Whether the character issues are a factor or not, we'll never know. It's all moot because the team couldn't offer anything that wouldn't have been matched.

The only thing signing him would have accomplished is tying up that money for a week.

Though he would have been a (hopefully benign) cancer, there is no certainty what Denver would have done if we dropped a full MLE contract for JR at the beginning instead of Pop going out and wasting his finest bottle of pinot grigio on Maggette in trying to woo him (or whatever we had to do to impress him.)

They're crazy and stupid as an organization. When are crazy, stupid people ever that predictable?

Yeah, how stupid to waste a bottle of wine when we could have had a cancer for the full MLE, or at very least locked up that money for seven days while everyone else got signed and then Denver matched it at the last second. What stupid financial decisions the Spurs make!
