NEW YORK -- Disgraced NBA referee Tim Donaghy was sentenced to 15 months in prison Tuesday after pleading guilty last year to taking thousands of dollars in payoffs from a professional gambler for inside betting tips.
Donaghy, 41, had faced up to 33 months in prison.
Donaghy also was sentenced to a three-year term of supervised release, on the condition that he receive mental health treatment for his gambling addiction.
Donaghy's defense attorney asked that Donaghy be sent to a federal prison camp in Florida, near his family.
I think that 15 months in jail is reasonable and that the supervised release is an excellent idea.
Well done, justice system.
He's a handy guy to have around a prison yard. He can ref the basketball games AND handle any action on the side.
He's gonna find out how ass tastes.
In the NBA he handled opening tips. In prison he'll have to handle tips in his openings.
I'm sure they'll let a guy with NBA experience be involved in their pick up games, namely a few rounds of "Pick up the Soap, ".
I knew your response post would be funny.

Hey J.T. why don't you tell me how my ass taste
I too believe his rear end needs protection, but what he needs to worry about most is if any inmates lost money betting on games he reffed.
I think he got lucky. The refs now can say " I can make millions fixing games and if I get caught I will get only 12-15 months" Awfully tempting!
