There is an article in the lastest ESPN The Mag on the "deep hatred" between these two. It describes how that hatred fuels that ongoing rivalry.

Shaq had his honorary sheriff's department badge taken away by Sheriff Apaio of Arizona for the freestyle rap he did. Apaio said it was in poor taste, and reflected badly on the department... is this maybe the "ban" that you remember?
