I enthusiastically cheered the '04 Dream Team where Timmy was fouling out every game it seemed, but this time I gotta go with the Argentines. Not just the fact that Ginobili and Oberto are playing for them, but the US roster is anchored with distasteful punks like Paul and Melo, the arrogant King James, and Kobe Bryant who ended SAS' last run. Its loaded with with d**ks on par with the Syndey squad - Garnett, Payton, Ray Ray...

So given the infinitesimal chance of this star-studded roster even losing a game, I hope the Argentines can put up a fight, if not come out on top. Not likely anyway.

Oh and another thing, looking back at previous post-boycott US olympic rosters, there was a current/eventual Spurs player on every one except the current version:

    1984 - Alvin Robertson
1988 - DRob, Charles Smith, Willie Anderson, JR Reid
    1992 - DRob
    1996 - DRob
    2000 - Steve Smith
    2004 - Duncan

Go Argentina! Even though I'm a big fan of James and Howard, I like Manu, Scola, Oberto, Nocioni, and co. better.

In all the other events, especially women's beach vollyeball, I'll be chanting "USA,USA". In basketball I can't root for this team. They have an unindicted rapist, a wife beating adulturer, a mellow gangster, and an "I'm a born leader" King James [who hasn't conquered anything in 6 years]---starting and REPRESENTING the USA. I find the idea comical that this team is "sacrificing" to play in the Olympics. What do players who average 1 million a month in salary do with their time off? Play golf? Hang with Josh Howard or Stephen Jackson? Some the team members are obviously good guys but winning the gold is just Cialis for all their egos[if your ego doesn't shrink in 4 days call your shrink]. GO Manu, Fab, & Luis[we will miss sorely you this year]!

The only thing wrong with team USA is Melo...he is the only punk. Paul isnt a punk. LeBron and Kobe are beasts. This is the US of A....I want Ginobili and Oberto to do good, but USA all the way!

And your point about no Spurs being on this team is great. I wouldnt want Duncan on this team. It would be fun to watch him, but there is a risk of injury. Gino and Parker arent from here, and who else would play in the olympics? Bowen would get 0 time and foul out quicker than Duncan and we all know James Gist is the closest thing to God...but he is a rookie and hasnt earned his spot!

God, I hope team USA wins the gold this year just for the Americans on this forum rooting against them.

You couldn't pay me to root for another country even if they had a star player that was on my favorite team.

    GO USA!

    CBF is right...

Team USA is going to roll every freaking team in this tournament.

    Greece will not win.
    Spain will not win.
    Argentina will not win.

Save yourself some embarrasment and stop even publicly considering it could happen...you willl only regret it after this is over.

This team is going to thump every team they play. Badly.

I don't think you guys realize how much animosity lies beneath the sportsmanlike face TEAM USA is wearing right now...they have something to prove.

Root for whoever you like...but if you seriously think anyone but Team USA is going to be coming home with the gold...you aren't looking at things objectively.

Do not expect 04 again...Michael Redd alone ensures that 04 will not be happening again....and he's like the 10th best player on this team.

if manu shot a bomb at the USA would that be ok since it was manu?
    Good one.

I'm pretty torn on this question. At first I was going to go for Argentina but now I'm not so sure. The US team screwed over Pop (he was the next in line before they went with Coach K). The US team cut Bowen early on. Not that I think Bowen is one of the best 12 players in the US but if you invite him, you know what you are going to get. Inviting him just to cut him was lame. On top of that, the Argentina teams plays beautiful basketball and the last time Manu won Gold, he came back and completed the best year of his career.

But now a few factors have me leaning away from Argentina. First of all, after watching Argentina play, I don't think they have a shot. Any color medal would be a good outcome for their team. Their major problem is Argentina's point guards are HORRIBLE. The rest of their team is good but the team really misses Sanchez and Montecchia. They were both borderline NBA talents who could play D and were clutch. Prigioni is extremely overrated and has gotten way worse in the last two years. Porta is like if Nick Van Exel ate Beno Udrih and then tore his ACL. Unless Ginobili plays point or Prigioni finds his form ASAP, Argentina is toast.

On top of that, the international media has gotten pretty damn annoying and overconfident. As much as USA Basketball screwed over Pop and Bowen, it would be pretty nice to see the US dominate and have the rest of the world STFU.

I'm undecided at this point but leaning slightly toward the US team.

I'm sick of everyone acting like the world passed America up as basketball mecca because of 04...

That's wasn't a great USA team...it damn sure wasn't the best we could send..

    And most importantly,

The 04 team was poorly constructed, it had one huge weakness, and that flaw was obvious from the day they constructed it. No outside shooting...

That is a death sentence in International Ball.

This team does not have that flaw...on the contrary, even the bad outside shooters on this team are better than the best outside shooters on the 04 team.

If you're an American, I don't see how you are not rooting for TEAM USA. Especially with al the anti-american sentiment and criticism from around the world towards the USA lately. Especially after the USA being laughed at for coming home with bronze in 2004.

    Patriotism.

    GO USA!!!!!!!!!!!

Eh basketball is a game and the Olympic Games on a whole are pretty corrupt. Patriotism shouldn't be judged using the Olympics.

What does The Timvp say in regards USA's first game in the actual olympics against China?

BTW, I hate Kobe and wish his knees would explode, but he is going to lock down Ginobili like a little baby when we play them.
