I need to add that I'm against the anti-american government fans, it's all about basketball for me.
I don't think the USA basketball team did anything to deserve the anti-American sentiment. I have no problem with not supporting the policies ( , most Americans don't) of the US government but you have to be smart enough to separate politics and sport. If someone boos US athletes just because they don't like the US government, then they lack the basic intelligence to be able to separate the two and are probably beyond help anyway.

Based on the compilation of players, coaching staff and the desire to get the gold, I think the USA will dominate so I probably won't watch much basketball...except for the game against Argentina if these teams meet up.
I'll root for Manu to have a good game and the US team to win. I'm covering the bases at both ends so to speak.

As badass as Manu is with the Spurs, he is against the US team. If you root for Manu, you root against the USA. Thus you are a traitor.

There is plenty of logic there. I love my country's basketball team because I love my country. The same way I love my cities basketball team because I live in the city.
How can you not understand my reasoning? I love the USA therefore I love the USA basketball, baseball, skateboarding, gymnastics, triatholon, sprint, discus, shot put, hurdling, pole vault, etc, etc, etc team.

The Olympics are supposed to be about the camaraderie of athletes from different countries playing against each other. This is a great time to see some of the stars of other teams that we'll never see in an NBA jersey. The traitor talk is 'basically re ed'.
A US gold medal is not going to affect the exchange rate and so it isn't going to affect any possible trend of players fleeing to Europe for more money. I'd like to see the US do well, but if they don't, who cares? Team USA's leaders (Stern, K, and Colangelo) are still trying to relive the Dream Team glory days and sell the stars over the game itself. If the US doesn't win then I'll feel bad for the players and annoyance for Team USA management that bungled the situation one more time.
Nobody ever said a US Gold will affect anything political but any American rooting against the home team is simply unpatriotic.

And MOAD, how can you be so blind? Is the American flag covering your face or what? I can love my country and NOT have to go for them in every olympic compe ion. I don't love Argentina, I like and respect several of their basketball players, and that's about it. But with the US, I can't really root for a team with Kobe, I don't give a if he is white or black or yellow, actions speak way louder than race.
Argentina plays (played?) some of the most beautiful team basketball I've ever seen in my life. The way they cut and moved the ball was amazing to watch. They play a style unlike anything I have seen before. Plus, they have my second favorite player in the league (and #1 ain't playing). It's stupid to root for a team only because they are from your home country, especially if their main player is a guy who is a horrible representative for your nation.
Where is this "real American" list you are speaking of? Oh, it's your opinion you say? Well, then stfu, cuz you don't get to set rules for all Americans to live by.

Hopefully all the actual Olympic games are archived, cuz I want to be able to see them, since I don't have cable, and when games start showing on nbc I'll be working for sure. Stupid China is five hours(earlier?).
Race means nothing to me. I hate Kobe for what he did but I root for any basketball player that pulls a USA jersey over their head. I want the USA to win the gold no matter who plays to win it.
