A negative presidential campaign? Who would have thought it?

Now, count the number of times Obama says "Bush and McCain" and not, simply "McCain"

I have no doubt we will see the pic of McCain hugging Bush hundreds of times before November. Again, if this campaign is a referendum on Bush, Obama wins. If it is a referendum on Obama, McCain has a chance.

Given the current political climate, if this campaign is a referendum on Bush, Satan wins.

I don't know about you- but I found this McCain campaign ad "The One" to be one of the most offensive ads we have seen in American politics to date.

At best, this ad implies that those who plan to support Senator Obama are looking for a new savior or a replacement Messiah. But many are reading it even more darkly as an attempt to portray Obama as an anti-Christ figure.

A vote for Senator Obama is a vote for the man we think will make the best President, not for a new Messiah. As Christians, we have one Lord And Savior. Jesus Christ. It is blasphemous to suggest otherwise.

And it is beyond offensive to suggest that Senator Obama is a false Messiah or the anti-Christ himself. How low can we go? It shows the McCain campaign is willing to make a mockery of our faith to feed people's fears. Christians need to reject this out of hand.

The Demos have already attacked McCain on various matters, including, among other things, being 'too old' to be president.

Yeah, you've got a lot of room to talk...

Of course, sliming Mc95% with dubya's horrendously horrible record is perfectly valid. Where's the beef?

No, the ad makes fun of the media, and its coverage of Obama. The Obamessiah name has been floating around for a couple of months; McCain's campaign just picked up on it, and made a clever ad. I think the ad does a fairly good job of reminding people that Obama is a Rock Star, a movement, a trendy, worldly-popular pick; but, ultimately, beyond his charisma and charm, there is, as of now, not a lot of "there" there.

Something was discussed in the "conservatives are cool thread" and what is being discussed in this thread i think needs to be combined.

Coolness, is not a virtue. When you're campaign has been using it as a tool to recruit voters, while talking out of the other side about trying to make this campaign about the issues, you deserve to be dealt with in the manner you were dealt.

It's a shame that people rate coolness as a factor of what makes a good public servant. For instance John Stewart, no doubt a smart man, but people were actually being serious about him being a presidential candidate at one time(2blonde). It's as if a swarm of preteen girls have invaded the gentlemen's country club and have jacked all the hoagies to puff and started to pretend that they have interest in politics.

It's not like conservatives are running ads featuring Male Action Cinema stars, Super Models, and Iconic Media figures like Charleton Heston lineup and do a Celebrity video touting the "Americanesque" of John McCain.

It was the Obama Campaign who started lining up the Kim Kardashians, Scarlett Johansens, Kanye's of the world and started using the "cool" factor to enlist voters to their cause.

It was the Obama Campaign that tried to use the slick marketing, jingoistic rhetoric that Liberals accused Reagan of applying in the 80's, of which now they used against Hilary Clinton.

Obama put Scarlet Joho, and Kanye on an ad, or he allowed them to speak for his cause. And now that the McCain Campaign used it against him, causing Obama's euro bounce to dissipate, Liberals are crying foul.

When in the past Liberals jumped on every Bush speech flounder and used it to ridicule his leadership, tried to sabotage every policy move, even ones which agreed with big govermnet socialism, disgrace him on foreign soil, call him an idiot, hide behind political "entertainment" venues, where the format and audience heavily favored their ideology to take cheap partisan hack potshots at him, ex "Daily Show", or rather show's where you would go unopposed "Countdown with KO".

If after all these years of Bush Derangement Syndrome, people Like Lebomb and MannyisGod, and his ilk want us to take it easy on Hussein, well you got something else coming to you.

Put down that tigerbeat rag and read a history book for once.

Cenk Uygur of the Young Turks argues that McCain and the M$M have managed to make the election a referendum on Obama instead of a referendum on McCain agreeing with 99% of failed Bush policy....

Why McCain Has Caught Obama and What Obama Can Do About It
    By Cenk Uygur

There are two principal reasons why John McCain has caught Barack Obama in the national polls.

    1) McCain has changed the whole conversation about this election into one question - do you want to vote for or against Obama? This is genius. Obama needs to switch the conversation if he wants to win.

    2) Obama has only played defense so far and has not attacked at all. This is weakness and a sure-fire way to lose an election.

The question in this election should be whether Americans want another four years of Republican rule. We just went through a disastrous eight years and the Republican nominee agrees with the president who brought us that disaster on nearly every single issue. McCain wants even more tax cuts, even more war, even more rights for oil companies and even larger deficits. Do the American people want four more years of that?

Instead, right now the only conversation is about whether Obama is qualified to be president or not. I think McCain's ads in this regard have been comical. They have flat-out sucked. But that doesn't matter. Because the only thing that matters is the conversation itself.

If Obama doesn't change the topic, he gives up an enormous advantage he has, which is the American people are grossly dissatisfied with the Republican Party (even the chairman of the NRCC is telling Republican Congressman to run away from their own party). Make the election about Republicans.

Secondly, Obama has not attacked at all. This is the same mistake Kerry made. He could have pounded Bush for all of his mistakes; instead he hardly laid a glove on him because he wanted to run a positive campaign. That's ridiculous.

There is a difference between hard hitting ads and negative campaigning. In my mind, negative campaigning is when you make stuff up about the other guy (like McCain did about Obama not visiting the troops in Germany because he couldn't bring cameras) or go after him personally (like McCain did when he compared Obama to Britney Spears). But going after your opponent's record isn't negative campaigning; it's explaining why it's a bad idea to vote for the other guy. That is part and parcel of a political campaign...

Americans are ALSO not happy with Democrats; and labeling McCain as a Bush clone isn't working; the conservatives who like Bush, to a large degree, have a strong distaste for McCain.

Also, Bush's historically low popularity numbers exist because he is not only hated by the people who have hated him for 8 years now (about 40% of the electorate), but his base has abandoned him primarily because of fiscal irresponsibility - that's probably 25% of the electorate; combine them, and only the people not really paying attention still "approve" of the job he's doing; but the disapproval are not all coming from the left; many are coming from the right.

Right....and McCain is just overflowing with substance.

Q:What do you see as the gravest long-term threat to the U.S.
    economy?

Obama: If we don't get a handle on our energy policy, it is
possible that the kinds of trends we've seen over the last year will
just continue. Demand is clearly outstripping supply. It's not a
problem we can drill our way out of. It can be a drag on our economy
for a very long time unless we take steps to innovate and invest in
the research and development that's required to find alternative
fuels. I think it's very important for the federal government to have
    a role in that process.

McCain: Well, I would think that the absolute gravest threat is
the struggle that we're in against Islamic extremism, which can
affect, if they prevail, our very existence
    . Another successful attack
on the United States of America could have devastating consequences.

    "Obama is a Rock Star"

because the public's enthusiastic response to HUSSEIN has made it so, not anything that HUSSEIN has intentionally done to create such an aura, and above all, the aura is compounded and enflamed by the Repug poisonous envy for any kind of equivalent enthusiam for McLame.

The unpatriotic, foreigner, terrorist HUSSEIN gets a popular response, so he gets ridiculed for it by the Repugs rabid attack dogs.

You wouldn't know it from the issues he's running on (e.g. herbal tea, tire gauges, MetRx Bars, Paris Hilton,....etc).
