if i wanna see sketches, ill goto market square....unlike most of your readers, i dont believe you did them
dude, carina posts her sketches all the time and it's awesome artwork. far better than the stick figures i can draw. secondly...if you really pay close attention you can see her signature and date on the artwork...so it's her work.

don't hate if you don't like. just ignore and move along.

Nice job Carina. You could record while you're drawing them and make a "speed painting" video and post on youtube.

wow... Thanks you guys for sticking up for me. I'm touched, honestly. Well, virtually anyway.

I've posted my artwork here since last year, I think. Sketching is my hobby and since you guys don't seem to mind and some of you say you like my work, I share my new ones when I feel inclined to.

Frankly, mrspurs, I don't care whether you think I did them or not. I've already received the only validation that meant to me from the guy himself. So, up yours, I guess.

Are you committed to that style with the thick lines? I know it's just a sketch, but I was wondering if you'd consider drawing him wearing less eyeliner.
Haha. The last time, someone commented on one of my Manu drawings that he seemed to be wearing lipstick. But yeah, I get what you mean.

No, I'm not committed to the heavy lines, although some of my recent sketches have turned out that way. I don't know why. The thing is, when I roughly finish a sketch, I spend maybe ten or so minutes tweaking things. After that, I just leave it be. I'm not a professional artist, so I've never obsessed about those details. Now that two people have pointed it out, I'll try to be more careful next time, thanks.

Nice detail!! Don't listen to those haters!!
How long did it take to do the 1st one?
Thanks. The first one, I think I finished it under an hour, including tweaking stuff. That's probably the fastest Manu sketch I've made. Usually, it takes me so long because I nitpick so much when I draw Manu, not so much with others.

In the absence of SD21 and Jayem, you're doing an admirable job of maintaining the required emo quota around here.

It's just that you've got great vision. The lines, shapes and shading clearly depict who it is. For a sketch it's great. Further tweaks would make it a great portrait. But yeah, it's just something to think about.

As for my skills, I struggle to make hands look like anything but inflated latex gloves. So I'm a bit jealous and am reminded that I need to continue practicing.

Cool sketches. Did you ever do any of him getting the Gold in Athens (with the old-style wreath on his head)? That's prob the coolest non-action Manu photo I've seen.

Nope, I haven't done any from his 2004 Olympics. The closest is this picture taken before the Olympics, I think.

Anyway, that photo you posted has been in my laptop for years and I've thought of doing it before. However, one of my biggest pet peeves in sketches are teeth. I don't like drawing photos that have them. I'm horrible when it comes to those so I avoid them as much as possible. But yes, it's a very cool non-action photo of him.

Thanks very much. When I draw a close-up sketch, details are very important to me. The shape of the eyes, the nose, etc. But when it comes to the tweaking part, I get easily bored and lazy. I'm weird that way.

As for the hands, if you're copying from a picture, just try to pay very close attention to the details. Do a little tweaks, and you'll probably do fine. I have trouble doing hands too, if I don't have anything to copy. That said, I have trouble drawing someone just from imagination. They end up looking like cartoon characters.

checkout glen vilppu's(i think that's how is last name is spelt) video on drawing hands. everything is easier to draw when you break it down to its simple geometric shapes. back to the basics!

Thanks, EHJ. It's one of my favorite sketches.

Too bad I lost the original. I drew it on my brother's sketchbook.
