that YOU call yourself "North American" is a weird exemption... you need to travel a lil more within your country mate... every body else there considers him/herself "American"...
Right, including the Hawaians...does it make sense now?

Oh and I call myself American too...but if I wanted to use a term that collectively describes all the countries in North America I would call us North Americans.

-----> You are free to think whatever estupidity you want, but America is a continent, from North, to South , crossing Central, even if you dont like it.

You know what dumbass...even if that's true, we're the ones with America in the name of our country...not anyone else, so especially in the Olympics, which is an International compe ion, not a continental one...the term America still applies to us and no one else. It is in the name of our country.

Have you figured it out yet?

Damn...I know everyone wants to be an American(a real one), but jealousy is such an ugly emotion.....

That is not what they are taught in US schools. They make a distinction between North and South America (not sure where they include Central America). They don't look at America as a continent (at least this is what I have heard).

Central America is in North America.

And you are right...there is no continent named America to us. But even if there were...for the 400th time, we're the only ones with America in the name of our country. So as a Natinional designation...we'd still call ourselves Americans.

How hard is this to figure out?

------> Yes i know it, but if you read a few history books, good books, all of it refering to the American continent or America as a whole., .
Yeah...and we have an old saying, he who has the indoor plumbing, gets to make the rules...

    Deal with it.

And don't worry...you'll get there, someday.

    Baby steps...baby steps.

so why are you arguing if you're another calling himself "American"?

so if you live in a non continental US state you call yourself, Hawaiian, Alaskan??? bull .. they call themselves American there as well... i have been there (both of those) so i know as a fact....

I'm explaining to your dumbufkcing ass why we do it.

No Sherlock...that's what I said....they also call themselves Hawaians and Alaskans when referring to their state.

I call them Americans too, when talking about their Nationality.

Just like someone from New York, New York, would accurately call thmselves a New Yorker, when referring to either their home city, or state...but they are only ones that could call themselves that when referencing their home city.

thanks, but no thanks i knew that already

i thought this was about nationality not regionalism

so... if you ask another US citizen in US territory where you are from you'd say where state do you live or what state you were born/raised?

also... when abroad is the only time when y'all would say "American"?

Whatever ...at least my world view isn't defined by a 500 year old definition of continent...

Do you still believe the the Earth is flat?

Because old history books say that too.

When you start calling yourself a UragayianAmerican, in reference to your nationality, that's when we'll start calling ourselves US Americans, because why shiould we be the only ones doing the extra work?

Actually, we probably still won't do that, beause if everyone else starts to include the term American in their nationality, so the term American by itself, will still be free to use as a National designation....and so it'd be smart to not let it go to waste.

Remember...first comes the North South America definition of continent, then comes the indoor plumbing...

    Baby steps....

    Hey you dumb traitors.

    whottt is correct.

Central America is considered PART OF THE NORTH AMERICAN CONTINENT

Now go sit in a corner and think about what being a patriot is all about.

I am a mother er and I have a Nazi tatto in my arm

    whottt is not correct.

Central America is not considered PART OF THE NORTH AMERICAN CONTINENT otherwise we would have legalized all immigrants from that region years ago

Now go i'll sit in a corner and think about what being a patriot is all about... bombing foreign countries for lack of a better idea

Dip s...Central America is not a continent...it is part of the North American Continent. I know that s you guys up...

    But it's like this...

When WE were building the ing Panama Canal, and separating the mother ing continents...we decided every country entirely located above it would be North America and every country below it would be South America.

You build the canal and separate the continents, thus creating two continents, using even a generous definition of the word continent...you get to do like that.

where can you prove mine is?

Do you still believe the the Earth is flat?

Because old history books say that too.
i doubt you hardly ever opened a history book by the content of your words

When you start calling yourself a UragayianAmerican, in reference to your nationality, that's when we'll start calling ourselves US Americans, because why shiould we be the only ones doing the extra work?
When i am in the US and i say i am from Uruguay they generally ask me "in which state that is?" or the don;t have the minimum clue as i think you don't in this case as well... not your fault on this one though... only PhD level americans has same level of geography knowledge a kid out of school in Cuba does...

Actually, we probably still won't do that, beause if everyone else starts to include the term American in their nationality, so the term American by itself, will still be free to use as a National designation....and so it'd be smart to not let it go to waste.
i am cool with y'all keeping the term... i don;t want to be confused as an american in France believe me...

Remember...first comes the North South America definition of continent, then comes the indoor plumbing... Baby steps....
i dunno what you are talking about... at school here they teach us about North/Central/South America... all together we're called like the FIBA championship... "The Americas"

so... if you ask another US citizen in US territory where you are from you'd say where state do you live or what state you were born/raised?
We'd say where are you from...and they would instantly know we mean their state and city. Not their country.

also... when abroad is the only time when y'all would say "American"?
Not the only time...it depends on who you are talking too...but generally as a rule, yeah Americans in America don't get asked what country they are from.

But we do use the term often in politics or in celebrating holidays...it'a unity thing.

But generally not in casual conversation...

OTOH, someone who is very proud of their state inden y might give their state even if outside of the United States...if they think their state is well known enough...a New Yorker or a Texan might be real happy to use that term, even outside of the US.

I love the U.S! I graduated from the school of the americas, where i was taught new interrogational tactics. My Love for the bush family was infinite. He would allow me to travel to north america, so I could do my business. In exchange, I would give him information on the location of these infidels who thought that the poor had rights. JAJAJA... the poor having rights LoL.
Everyone in the world knew what I did for a living, except Jorge and Ronaldo, and though they betrayed me, they will always be my BFFs.
