Colangelo: Pop Would Have Been Great Choice For Team USA

I can't decide of Colangelo really thinks chechefski is the better choice here or he's just bitter at the Spurs.

It is probably the latter one.

Coach K is probably a better coach for Fiba, College Ball features alot of Zone defense, and I would think that Coach K is more geared to teach a solid zone D than Pop.

Plus guys like Lebron and Melo probably couldn't handle a coach like Pop.

It's a damn shame Pop got shafted out of his turn at the reigns, it seriously blows for someone who has served his country to not get the nod over the image cult that surrounds coach K.

It's enough to make me root for another miracle out of ginobili and co.

Because in all honesty the team that Colangelo and K was built is no less lacking in egos and names than the crappy 04 team. We gave a ton of lip service to the idea of building a real team and just went out and fielded another all star team.

This 08 team is definitely in better position to win the gold than the 04 team because it has more inside out balance, but I won't lose any sleep if they come up short of the gold yet again.

When the US actually tries, the team could be put together by Isaiah Thomas and coached by Mike D'Antoni and they'd still win the gold. Coach K and the Suns getting credit makes it hard to root for this team.

You know what really sucks? K's first time out as coach the result was just as big a disaster as 2004.

The guys going to reap glory because he's the first to ever get the opportunity to coach the team THREE TIMES, under a system specifically designed to improve player familiarity.
