You know this all seems like negotiating 101. To me it appears like lebron and Kobe are trying to set the stage for the players union to be able to go to the leauge and bring back the franchise player rule. Get rid of caps for the top talent in the leauge. It is ironically happening just before they will both be on the market looking for their next big contract. Maybe I am reading into things to much but this is how I see it.

I think you may be right. Scare tactics. Force the NBA to make some changes.

damn these euro teams could assemble some monster teams that would make NBA teams seem like a joke.

But there is nowhere near the market or talent to surround these monster players with in Europe.

You think Kobe will get any satisfaction winning a euro-league championship as compared to the 3 NBA rings? I highly doubt it.

    NBA is falling

Never thought it will happen so fast altough I predicted Europe to catch up.
Still a long way, but as I look what is happening in sports I will still be able to shoot the ball into the hole while Europe = States.

    Bad for basketball

Concentration of talent and pruduction won't be as tight, it will spreaddddddddddd

Football ("soccer") will always be infinitely more popular in every country but America, so why would European teams spend 50 mil a year on ANY player? If its about money, which it is, no one does it.

The rich guys wants to have their name popular.
They "find a hobby" in basketball. They get the tickets they get the popularity = money and power.
They are on a market so they can make businnes with others with the same thinking.

why not play overseas? if they were to pay lebron or kobe 50 million to play half the games as they play in the nba, i think they would at least have to entertain the idea. that 50 million over there is worth more than here. dont be suprised if tony takes a large offer in europe when tim retires. funny because i just said in a thread an hour ago that tony would stay but now im not so sure.

I would hazard a guess in saying that the any teamin europe wouldnt even spend $50mil on their entire roster let alone one player. they just arent anywhere near the size of NBA clubs and as a result have no way near the money the NBA does.

plus i think most of you would know that soccer is a MUCH more popular sport in europe than bball right? Christiano Ronaldo is an EXTREMELY good player, some regard him as the best in the world. so in a way we can compare him to kobe because he is widely regarded as the best at his sport. even he only earns $12.8mil a year. there is no way a bball club would spend that much money on a player...ever....ever ever ever.

this is a scary prospect but really, its not of any possibility whatsoever!

meaning no disrepect, my youngest played soccer, i had to learn things i didnt want to.(thats life and ill never, ever be a dead beat dad) needless to say, and thank god he could out run every single kid in the league, to the point(every yr. the teams coach would call and say you know blanks uniform is on the house if he plays with us again) for 2 seasons in a row, he brought the worst team in the league every single year before him, a championship. then like most kids said this is boring and never kicked a ball again....once again(thank god)...thats why euros would pay 50 million dollars to get the best out there...once again meaning no disrepect, i disagree with ya about your theory on money. everything in this world is about money.......i have this saying my wife hates hearing........show them the money and the love will follow.........

Uh, no they can't. Luring one player like this will put them seriously in the red for years.

Tickets won't pay for this. Money on this scale must come directly out of the owner's pocket or from a monster TV contract, which Euroleague doesn't have.

Say what? Josh Childress gets $6.67 million per for Panathinaikos, and a European team wouldn't double that to get an All-NBA first, second, or third teamer?
