how he is hurt still
his looks will not get it done![]()
The Argentina coach doesn't look 100% and he's not even playing. But I guess the upside is that if you were to lose a game, you better lose it in pool play.
they miss pepe sanchez,
i don't think they can beat usa, spain and greece.
Now with this loss there is a good chance they'll meet one of these teams in the QF.
Pepe Sanchez please come back!!! PRigioni can't even defend me and i don't want to start talking about his scoring %
LMFAO over and over again at the re brigade.
On the game:
- Yes, as we all expected, the point is a big problem. When Prigioni has a bad game, there's no natural backup. Manu, Delfino and Quinteros had to bring the ball upcourt several times during the game. I don't like Hernandez style of coaching, but apart from that, taking Porta to the Olympics has to be one of the dumbest decisions he ever made.
- The team is having awful 1st, 2nd and 3rd quarters, and is only capable of getting back into the game by playing solid defense in one end and moving the ball better in the other in the 4th quarter. What the team needs to do is to come out strong, because against poor quality that trend can bring a victory, but against good teams it will mean an early exit. This is a do or die tournament, you can't relax for one game, so hopefully some of the players and the coach take their heads out of their asses soon.
- Among those things that need improvement early in the game is defensive rotations. Too many easy three pointers and basket cuts. We need better man-to-man defense and stop using zone that much.
- Another thing to improve is ball movement. There were many possesions were there was too much dribbling and very few picks without the ball. Without ball and player movement, players like Scola or Oberto will struggle to score against good defensive teams, because they look for good positions and open spaces to get their shots. They won't score 20 points backing down their defenders. The team got only a lousy 10 assists for the game, while turned the ball over 18 times, those are ridiculous stats.
- Since the ball movement was awful in the first half, the team fell in love with contested three-pointers. The team shot 22 three-pointers, and made 5 of those, that's a 22.7%. Needless to say, that's not the best way to win a practice game, nevermind the Olympics. Chapu, Manu and Delfino were the ones who took the worst shots in this area. I think it's related with the lack of solid distribution from the point. If Prigioni doesn't man up and take his head out of his ass, it's going to be an awfully short tournament.
- Good news is that Oberto is out of his Spurs mindset and looks good as usual with the National Team.
The good part is that there is room for improvement, because the team can't play much worse than they did in the first three quarters. They showed that when they put their things together, like in the fourth quarter, they can still aim for a medal.
I thought manu could play point though
Co sign, wow Manu is from there so you have a bond to him now? Tim and D Rob played for us, forget the traitors on here.....
Nice bait.
He can. Better than you know who.
But what he can't do is play point and shooting guard at the same time. Prigioni needs to step up.
I always thought de nile was in Africa...
Nice analysis, Manu'sMagicalLeftHand. Every Argentina game I've seen leads me to the same conclusion -- they don't have a chance unless a miracle happens at point guard. Prigioni has gotten horrible over the last few years. I'm not sure what has happened to him but he sucked in Tau last year the games I watched him and he's sucking even more now.
The answer might be moving Delfino into the starting lineup and moving Ginobili over to point guard. Although I don't think that will work because it will tire out Ginobili and he's still a little slowed by that ankle so his ballhandling isn't where it could be.
It sucks for Argentina that both Sanchez and Monteccia bailed. I don't care what type of shape those two guys are in, they are both miles better than Prigioni.
Speaking Prigioni, I remember when whottt wanted him on the Spurs. ROFL.
Nicely played, sir.
Sanchez quit because he felt like he had given the best years of his career to the National Team and that made him struggle at club level. During his career, he has shined in short, intense tournaments with Argentina, but struggled in long seasons with several clubs. He is 31 years old and has already played for 12 different clubs.
Montecchia retired from the National Team after Athens 2004. Then he retired from professional basketball altogether a couple of seasons ago because he tore his ACL. But he came back last year and now plays in the Argentinian League. He would have been nice as a 3rd option at the point, but I don't think he could be the answer.
The main mistakes by Hernandez are taking Porta, who is still struggling to come back from knee surgery, and taking only two point guards. There were more options, I'm not going to list them, because probably most people won't know who they are because they play in the Argentinian League. But any of those point guards could have been with the team and give an option at the point in case Prigioni chokes like he is doing.

Notebook: Ginobili says ankle is fine
David King
The Spurs’ Manu Ginobili told Spanish-speaking reporters that his problematic ankle gave him no problems during Argentina’s tournament-opening loss to Lithuania on Sunday.
“The ankle was perfect, just fine,” he said. “There was little stiffness for a few minutes, but when I got warmed up, it was fine.”
Ginobili led Argentina with 19 points but missed a shot in the final minute of the defending gold medalists’ 79-75 loss.
“We’ll be fine,” he said of the loss, which came in the first of five pool-play contests. “We’ve had similar games to these before. We just have to keep working, play hard in the next one, with more pressure, the ways we’ve won before. I’ve got to cut down on my mistakes.”
Four of the six teams in the pools will advance to a single-elimination tournament, with the medal games scheduled for Aug. 24, the last day of the Games.
I watched the game last night and they looked like . Argentina will be out of the game soon and I'm glad they will be because Gino looks hobbled. Any rest he gets is a plus.
I guess senile is not a river in Africa...
One game isn't the answer.
Oberto did a pretty good job. 9 points 11 rebounds 3 ast while Scola with 10 points and 6 rebounds I think maybe he was weak in the argie boards 'cause he's a more offensive player than Oberto and both finished with the same points.
Why the Olympic fouls and NBA fouls are very different? I think Olympic fouls are five not six like NBA but I don't know more differences.Javtokas fouled a lot, but Olympic fouls and NBA fouls are very different
Australia
they played like . Nocioni was trash.
I am shocked they only lost by 3.
They will make the medal rounds and then we'll see how they do. nothing to be worried about.
argentina had 2 shots to win this game when they were tied at 75... none of those fell... Kleiza had his career 3... Lith Wins... they should have taken a younglin to run the point.. taking Porta was a huge mistake...
Manu looks like he's lost alot of weight too.
Manu needs to take charge of this team or they are not going anywhere. He needs to run most plays, he needs to handle the ball.
If you ever hope to see Javtokas in Spurs uni, keep track of the U.S. $$ valuation, re. Euro. Sucking U.S. economy is killing NBA. Colangelo should ban W from watching Team USA games in Beijing.
