The cool thing about being an American...is that you have the right to believe how you want. I guess I am not a real American because I do not approve of quite a few things that some Americans do. If it what he thinks about Team USA bothers you that much...then you have deeper issues. If someone in an internet discussion has to resort to acting like a middle-schooler calling someone names.....then your problems extend way beyond the keyboard.
I will agree with you on one thing though. If someone rooting against the USA in sports is too stupid to differentiate between the US governments actions and those of a USA sports team, they yes, they are pretty pathetic. Its sports, not politics. The less the two mix, the better.

this is going to sound corny The point of the olympics is not a 'this country is better than this country' contest or an excuse for 'your counrtry sucks' war. The point is to embrace friendly compe ion with other humans from other countries and to have respect for each other as same members in a species and set aside the differences to repsect the similarities. I dont' really give a care who wins what, the reason I watch the olympics is because it makes me feel unified with the world seeing all the different countries participating. yeah i know it sounds corny. Cheering for your country and national pride is fine and dandy, but I have barely seen any of that, I've seen the exact opposite; also IMO cheering for your country should include cheering for your own country and that's it there is no reason to bring in another nation to boost your own country. Also I don't care if the US wins one single medal or any other nation for that matter. However, as far as basketball when I watch basketball I watch it as a basketball fan, not a fan of a particular nation so I root for players I enjoy watching and teams that I like to watch play.

Lighten up. Its only a basketball game. Anyone can root for anyone and not be any type of traitor. Some fans are more fans of the players on Argentina than the US team.
