To clarify, I didn't do an IP check or dig into this to see if it really is a whottt character. I'm guessing it is but either way, it's a pretty damn funny twist to this thread.

It doesn't really matter... Continents are only separated by water? Explain that one. How about arguing with the definition of Great Britain from the dictionary? He claimed England is not in Europe, which is completely different from claiming that Brits don't see themselves as Europeans (something I actually brought up in one of my posts, but he kept arguing nonetheless)...

    Another memorable phrase from whottt:
Ok now if..."Continental Europe is not the European Continent" is not the stupidest thing ever uttered in the history of mankind...I don't know what is.

No I didn't you ing idiot...what I said was this:

I don't think Great Britain or Japan consider themselves to be part of the European and Asian continents...just part of their region. Kinda like Hawaii and North America.

    To which you responded this:

Wow, I can't believe you truly are so ignorant.
England not in Europe? Japan not in Asia? LOL

    Once more for emphasis:

I don't think Great Britain or Japan consider themselves to be part of the European and Asian continents

It was at that time that mainland Britain became an island, separated from the continent of Europe

Wow, I guess I'm not on ignore anymore? GREAT!!!
    Welcome back to the conversation!!!

Link to me saying that? Stupid ?
So, if water is what separates a continent from each other, then England is not really Europe, New Zealand is not Oceania, and Japan is not Asia.
I agree with you about americans calling themselves americans because is in the name of your country, but the continents thing is a little weird.
I don't think Great Britain or Japan consider themselves to be part of the European and Asian continents...just part of their region. Kinda like Hawaii and North America.

Not to mention you argued that Continental Europe is the same thing as the European Continent as a whole (something you even argued with timvp about). Or are you going to deny it?

    -------------------

Now that I have you full attention again, can you expand on what's so funny from this dictionary definition:

    Great Britain
    noun
an island of NW Europe, separated from the mainland by the English Channel and the North Sea: since 1707 the name has applied politically to England, Scotland, and Wales. 46,417,600; 88,139 sq. mi. (228,280 sq. km).

LOL... you still don't understand, do you? The Mainland is NOT the entire Continent...

Damn, this is from one of your OWN posts:

    One more time for emphasis:
    explicitly excluding European islands
You're LOOKING AT THE WRONG WORD. Continental Europe is not the European Continent. Notice how it says EUROPEAN islands above? , I wonder if they're in ing ASIA. Gee, no, they're in EUROPE.

    http://www.thefreedictionary.com/Europe

Europe - the 2nd smallest continent (actually a vast peninsula of Eurasia); the British use `Europe' to refer to all of the continent except the British Isles
And you call me a ing illiterate??? There's 2 definitions there. I actually posted this earlier here: http://www.spurstalk.com/forums/show...&postcount=246

    Europe
    1. a continent in the W part of the landmass lying between the Atlantic and Pacific oceans, separated from Asia by the Ural Mountains on the E and the Caucasus Mountains and the Black and Caspian seas on the SE. In British usage, Europe sometimes contrasts with England. 702,300,000 including the Russian

Notice the part in italics. I don't argue that Brits don't consider themselves Europeans, I argue that they are Europeans regardless of what they think.
If you agree with that, just say so.

    http://www.asianinfo.org/asianinfo/japan/geography.htm
Sea of Japan and the East China Sea separate Japan from the Asian continent.
    How about Wikipedia:
Japan (日本 Nihon or Nippon?, officially 日本国 Nippon-koku?·i or Nihon-koku) is an island country in East Asia.

How about the American Heritage Dictionary:
A country of Asia on an archipelago off the northeast coast of the mainland.

    How about Merriam-Webster:
country E Asia comprising Honshu, Hokkaido, Kyushu, Shikoku, & other islands in the W Pacific; a cons utional monarchy capital Tokyo area 143,619 square miles (371,973 square kilometers), population 126,925,843

    http://www.britannia.com/wales/whist1.html

250,000 BC (the Lower Paleolithic Age), and hand-worked tools have been found at various sites that date from around 26,000 BC. It wasn't until the retreat of the glaciers during the Ice Age around 10,000 BC, however, that human settlement in any significant numbers could begin.

It was at that time that mainland Britain became an island, separated from the continent of Europe
HAHAHAHAHAHAHA, I gotta make this my new sig.
, even before the Ice Age, before the tectonics plates moved, there were probably very few, if any, islands at all.
This is so weak it would be so funny if it weren't so sad.
Just answer the ing question for posterity. It's a really easy, Yes or No question:
    Is Great Britain an Island?

    http://www.yourdictionary.com/continent

any of the main large land areas of the earth, conventionally regarded (with or without outlying islands)
I'll give you this: There's plenty of definitions of Continent (note, very different from 'Continental'), including 6, 7, 8 or 9 Continents, depending on where you look and the background of the definition (political, geological, historical, regional, etc)
Will you agree with me that the most common definition is the geological-political one that includes the outlying islands?

If you agree with that, just say so.
I think the British are whatever they think they are...and who are you or anyone else to tell them otherwise. wad.

What I think is this idiot:

I don't think the British or the Japanese consider themselves to be part of the European and Asian continents

And I'm right about that...and you called me ignorant for making that statement you stupid .

    That's what I think.

You're an ElNono...and this entrie argument is because you are stupid, and don't know what a continent is...and you can't read.

And I don't give a if you get timvp or every mother er on this forum saying otherwise...I am right, the proof is right there in front of your dumb ing face, as is the proof that you can't ing read, and don't know what a continent is...and there is nothing you will ever be able to say or do to change it.

And if you knew what an Island is...you'd know why I thought that was funny...all it proves is there is yet another definition of continent, that you are IGNORANT of.
