he actually has an opt out clause after the 2nd year, so him saying he has 3 more years tells me he plans on staying here...After his contract, any player would explore FA, nothing shoking there

I'm thinking that once Dirk feels the window is closed here, he'll either demand a trade or sign with another team."We had two first-round exits the last two years, so hopefully we can be a little more compe ive again. One of my big dreams was to be in the Olympic Games, and I did that, and my next dream is the championship.
"I've got three more years left in Dallas, and hopefully one of those years we can achieve my goal."

He's never been like this. He's always been very "I'd love to play here my entire career, I want to retire a Maverick" and so on.
I think he's going to give Carlisle and Kidd a shot, and if it's obvious that it won't equate to being a contender, he'll demand a trade. If he doesn't get it, he'll sign with a contender when his contract is up.
Well i wouldnt blame him if this thing keeps on going downhill
I don't blame him one bit either. Finally he's starting to speak up, and as subtle as it is, at least he's making some sort of a statement of "get off your asses and do your jobs or I'm out" to the front office.
If the front office doesn't care enough to put a contender together, I'd love to see Dirk go somewhere else and get a ring.
He has a future with San Antonio written all over him.
In 3 years, the Grizzlies will already be kickin ass. Memphis would be a great place for dirk to come and snatch a ring.![]()
Kidd is gone after this season. We might as well trade Dirk and J-Ho and build around a new young core with Bass, Foster and others to play around vets like Diop, Terry, and Stack.
I love Bass but that's the dumbest idea i've ever read. Building around Bass & Shan Foster is just asking to break the record for fewest wins in a season.
We can build a team with a young core of:
Bass, Foster, R. Terry, and Sabutis
They aren't bad for 5-6. Im interested to see what we could get for Dirk. Josh is worthless. We might as well keep him and try and see if he can squeeze out 20 ppg.
Over/under on wins that season is officially 5.
It's not a bad idea if Dirk walks. If your team is going to suck, it's best to suck all the way and hope to draft a Duncan, Shaq, LeBron, Olajuwon, Robinson, Oden, etc.
but youll still have vets like JET, Diop and Damp under contract....i'd say that veteran leadership has to be worth at least 3 more wins, which would leave them at 8-74 and have the worst record of all-time
its not a bad a idea if you want to tank but when you say build around those 2 players like you think you can win, thats ridiculous
God he would be the perfect PF fit in the triangle next to Bynum. Come to LA Dirk!
man hed be a perfect fit in san antonio......also houston, dallas, new york, miami,LA,sacramento, cleveland, toronto, seattle ,atlanta or new jersey!!!!!
he really would be a perfect fit here.
Dirk Nowitzki is a perfect fit in any offense.
You'll have to wait until 2012 at least, Sperm fans.
How can you say that? Previously, Dirk spoke of his time in Dallas as if he would be buried in his Mavs jersey. Now, he's speaking in finite terms about his stint here. And he's done it on multiple occasions this offseason.
Everyone wants to think he's Mr. Maverick but I think he's gotten to the point where he realizes he only has a few more years of his prime left, and it better not be wasted on a dimishing team with a lame duck GM and an owner more interested in baseball.
