Probably for the 1 year so hes unrestricted next year.
It might have taken a little longer than some people expected, but on Friday J.R. Smith was officially re-signed by the Denver Nuggets to a multi-year contract extension.
"We're extremely delighted to have J.R. back," said Vice President of Basketball Operations Mark Warkentien. "His blend of off-the-charts-athleticism and long-range shooting ability is rare, especially for someone his age. We believe his best basketball is still to come."
Smith is still just 22 years of age and really came on during the final two months of last season. He scored a career-high 43 points off the bench in 33 minutes at Chicago on February 22nd, setting a team record for points in a non-starting role. Smith was also arguably Denver's most consistent player in the postseason against the Los Angeles Lakers averaging 18.3 ppg in 27 minutes.
Smith was originally acquired from the Chicago Bulls on July 20, 2006, in exchange for Howard Eisley and two second-round draft picks in a deal that could go down as one of the best in Nuggets history. He was originally selected by the New Orleans Hornets in the first round (18th overall) of the 2004 NBA Draft.

Ill double that good. Now maybe, and thats a big maybe. Spurstalk threads will at least not have (trade your mamas for jr.smith) around.![]()
let them keep a chucker who refuses to play D like the rest of his team...w/o Camby to cover up for their defensive mistakes, Nuggets will struggle to keep teams under 110
The Spurs need to go after this guy next summer with the same ferocity that they did with Corey Maggette this summer.
signed a multi year deal....
.......again!
At this point, the Spurs need to "bite the bullet" and trade for SJax. Bring him back to the organization.
Next summer maybe bite on a contract if we attach a couple of get out of jail free passes to go with it.
And give up what to the Warriors.
Hes one of their main scorers, why would they trade him?
I'm just being facetious in the face of obvious frustration.![]()
Meh, life goes on. No biggy.
sounds like it was a 3yr deal starting at around 4-5mil a year, but with alot of incentives so his salary will increase if he reaches those goals.
knew this was gonna happen after camby was traded.
So much for all those posters with a hard-on for Smith.
Iverson should keep his bags packed.
Denver is going to need to unload salary now, thus why they gave away Camby for essentially nothing.
AI is a losing player and is drastically overpaid.
With Denver's so-called cap situation and seeing how they were -bent on dumping salary, it's odd that they would've been in position to have accomplished such a multi-year deal.
damn I wished the spurs did whatever they could to have gotten him... exciting player to watch.. Hopefully now he can stay out of trouble and have the desire to get better
