I've supported Manu so far but if he limps out there for the bronze medal game, my respect for his sanity would plummet.
Jeff McDonald: Ginobili awaiting 'miracle'
Spurs fans over the years have become used to watching Manu Ginobili make the miraculous look easy. It appears he will have to pull off another such wonder just to suit up for Argentina's Olympic bronze-medal game against Lithuania tonight.
"Only a miracle would allow me to go onto the court," Ginobili told FIBA.com Saturday. "I would need to wake up really good."
Ginobili strained a tendon in his left foot during Friday's game against Team USA, aggravating the same injury that had hobbled him throughout the playoffs last season.
The Spurs, meanwhile, are awaiting results of an MRI that would show the extent of Ginobili's latest injury.
It is too early to determine if Ginobili would need surgery to correct the ailment. He told the FIBA website he is "prepared" to go under the knife, if it comes to that.

The team played pretty well without him, so I think it's time for him to sit this one out and support the guys who will be carrying the torch for the team from here on out.
Yeah-- bronze is just a little too inconsequential to risk further injury.
yeah lets just completelty screw the spurs
lets play on it and make sure it never heals right
no they could never without the great manu
Read that quote. He's going to go do it. This guy just doesn't realize when he should sit down. He probably should have shut himself down last season for the Spurs too. He just doesn't get it.
Man I love Manu a ton, but I really am starting to see his fatal flaws.
Come on, stop already.
Tony is playing international this summer too, even though I'm sure the Spurs aren't thrilled. So stop bashing Manu for it. And Tony's playing in tournament with bad gyms.
It's extremely unfortunate that Manu got hurt, and if he tries to play in the Bronze medal game, that's ridiculous and I will think he has lost his mind. But the never ending bashing for him going to the Olympics this summer is crazy. He was cleared by doctors to play.
pop publically told manu not to play
tp has said pop said he could
BIG difference
other then ploto posting he could play in bad gyms does anyone else have proof
and tp is not hurt going into the thing and has rested 2 and half months
manu never rested
their coach makes him carry the flag to make him feel he has to
argentina is almost as bad as china
Pop suggested that Manu didn't play just like I'm sure he suggested Tony didn't play. But I'm sure he prefers neither one of them play.
And umm.. yeah about the gyms. It was a big topic of conversation last time when multiple players were getting hurt because the floors were uneven, and there weren't adequate facilities.
WTF?? seriously Ducks learn when to SHUT THE UP! You've been talking out of your ing ass for the whole of the offseason. No coach is making Manu wear the flag, Manu wears it because he wants to. Every Argentinian does it, from fans to sports icons, and noone is forcing them to do it. They have national pride, sue them.
ducks, you've turned into a complete ing moron lately, and I know its intoxicating having free reign to spew your bull with all that's been happening lately, but try and control yourself. For starters try not to open your mouth about things you don't know about.
I'm all for talking when games like these come along, but the Argentinian bashing around here is getting to be pretty ing lame.
If he does, then you put him on the block.
Hes putting an exhibition game above the team.
Adios.
lately? when is he not a ing moron?
P.S. I'd like to add that I also think Manu suiting up for the bronze is ing insane given the cir stances. I think most people see this. Anyone rooting for Manu to play injured in a bronze medal game is a ing idiot in my book.
it was not in the local paper like manu
manu was told in local sa paper not to play
spurs really really did not want manu to go
spurs may or may not be thrilled with tp but they are more ok with him going then manu
but I leave it alone for now
most posters are posting manu should not be playing especacilly tomorrow
Where the do you get this brilliant insight ducky boy?? enlighten us. Stop making up, please.
yeah, but you let some slide, you know what I'm saying? Thing is, I've been reading ducks bull for the better part of 3 months, at this point enough has been let slide that now it just starts to piss me off.
The thing about ducks is he'll try to camouflage the out of his Manu hating. Normally, given this forum's predilection for Manu, there aren't many threads criticizing Manu around for ducks to put in his two cents without being noticed. Now on the other hand, the forum is ripe for his rants. Lots of threads where noone is going to call him out on his comments because they're on par with the thread's theme.
actually parker stated Pop was OK with him playing this summer.
While Pop "suggested" Ginobili not play.
Dude. Manu was hurt prior and was still hurt. TP is not hurt as bad as Manu.
Lets be real on this. Do any of the NBA teams want any of there players playing other than with them...NO
But if a player is hurt and decides to play and risk his teams future for his personal gain then yes the team will make it more public.
Exactly. PARKER stated Pop was okay with him playing. We haven't heard Pop say anything about it. But I'm sure he's not thrilled with Parker playing - considering that he wanted him to rest this summer and Tony had agreed to that.
In both Manu and Tony's cases, the Spurs or Pop can't tell them what to do. If they are cleared to play by doctors (as Manu was), they can do anything they want in their free time. And yes ... the offseason is their free time. The league can't control players in the summer. They can't make them come to mandatory workouts, they can't stop them from partying, and they can't tell them they can't play in the Olympics. There aren't stipulations in their contracts for these things.
Manu's situation is extremely unfortunate for him, for Argentina and for the Spurs, but you can't tell players not to compete for their national teams.
What I read was Pop was going to discourage Manu playing in the Olympics unless the ankle showed significant improvement. Before the Olympics started Manu said the ankle felt great.
I'm not saying Pop was happy about Manu playing, but don't give me this bull Pop was alright with Tony playing but didn't want Many to play. I'm pretty damn sure Pop would rather BOTH of them didn't play. Unfortunately that's not his decision.
not publically he did not with tp only manu
http://spurstalk.com/forums/showthread.php?t=103353
is where tp says pop is OK with it
What the is OK??
Yeah, I know. Tony says Pop is okay with it. That's not the same as Pop saying he's encouraging it. I'm sure Pop would rather have Tony continue to work out with Chip and scrimmage at the practice facility, not trot off overseas to play. And as far as Manu goes - Pop never said he absolutely didn't want him to go. He said he didn't want him to go if he wasn't healthy. And he was cleared to play and feeling good before the games.
