USA ed around too much in this game. They just had to find out if they could flip the switch when it got close so there would be no question about if they could win a close one...everybody already knew they could dominate, so not much would have been gained by them doing so.

They wanted it close to prove they could do it, at any point they wanted, they wanted Spain to have a chance to take it, to give them a reason to fight their hardest at the end.

Made for a better finish but the cloeseness of this game was artificially created by the players...

    Example:
I could have gone outside and took a piss while that one guy was allowed to spot up for a 3 . Then they did it again on the same posession...

One of the biggest BULL I ever read.

Meh. The US didn't really re-establish itself as the basketball power. Being in a close game against a team without arguably their best player isn't a way to close these Olympics out. They needed a 30 point blowout to shut up the critics and reclaim their past glory.

Now the rest of the world can say that if the US didn't knock down more threes than usual, didn't get a favorable whistle at some points of the game and had to go against a squad that wasn't starting a prepubescent point guard, it would have been totally different.

Nice win but the US of A is about domination ... not simply winning.

Some are upset on TV saying that USA didn't play as a team, that they only won with atletism and individual talent. No systems, no defence, not passing the ball, that Spain was playing better and USA plays like an All Star team.

Well for me personally I can't get hyped when 90% of the talent is on one side and that team is in a battle to avoid a massive choke job. It's not like this was an even matchup.
Spain has more talent then you're giving them credit for. Also, in any given game a few players can play stronger than usual but that doesn't mean they'll do it on a regular basis. I seriously doubt that Spain would put up 2 of these type of games if the teams played 10.

The USA figured out a lot about the international game this time around as well. This was a huge learning experience for them. While they definetly had the talent edge, a lot of the other factors were playing against them.

I think you're wrong. I think if you look at how those players reacted it means something to them and I think in the future we'll probably field even better teams.

The truth is that while this team was better, it wasn't the best we could have put on the court. If they had been able to get a Duncan or Amare to go and didn't take Jason Kidd then the team would have been even stronger.

If in four years we end up taking guys like Oden (if he pans out), Amare, Doug West and a lot of the same guards (Wade - Lebron - Melo - Paul - Dwill will all be in their primes) then I could easily see this team being stronger.
Talent doesn't matter. The US is going to for sure field the most talented team.

What matters is if those players care enough about winning. This team cared because they were embarrassed the last three times in international compe ion. Now that they are back on top, I don't see how they are going to muster up the drive to want to do it again.

If this US team wasn't desperate, Spain pulls away and wins. We'll see but I don't think the fire is going to be there next time.

How much better can you get than a team with Kobe, Lebron, Wade and Dwight howard? I mean they should have never even been close. A team that has the two "best players in the world" should dominate all the time and not have to jack up 3's at the end to win.

Right....Team USA sucked ass in this game...to say they played bad D would be misleading...they played virtually no D..especially when they got a decent lead. But I don't think they wanted to blow Spain out...because then everyone would have said it was all talent and no heart...now they can't..Spain had every chance to take it from them at a point and with a close enough score to where heart made the difference...and Spain didn't have the heart to take it from them.

So please people...don't blow smoke up your ass about Spain's heart...the chance for an all time upset was right there in front of their face.....
    Get real.

They aren't hating on Poland, dip . They're hating on you, because you've spent the evening hating on the USA. If you were representative of everyone in Poland, I'd hate the whole stinky little hole of a country too. As it is, I just hate you and I couldn't give a about the rest of the stinky little hole of a country you live in.

Does that make you feel better?

I know right now all the USA fans are going crazy for the victory, to be honest I'm a US citizen who lives in SA who was rooting for Argentina in 04 and 08 and it has nothing about being unpatriotic, it is just I hate how the team selection process is they don't put together fundamental teams anymore just flashy players, I mean look at the USA Women's team, how do you not select Becky Hammon as one of your PG ( o runner up to WNBA MVP) that doesn't make me less of an American but off that subject because it goes down a bad road in this forum

Let me say this Team USA did play as a team in these Olympics, they had chemistry and still they were tested by 3 or more teams throughout the tournament: Lithuania, Greece, Argentina, and Spain even when they played their best basketball probably within the last 12 years (depending on 1996 or 2000 teams) so I will repeat and you would have to be ignorant not to see this in the near future:

I think as more international players join the nba and then play in the Olympics for their respective teams we will see multiple foreign teams with multiple NBA players on them and the gap will be closed (if not already) forever and each olympics will be a question mark as to who wins the gold

They could have been much better inside. If this team had Doug West instead of Carmelo playing power forward they would have done much better. If this team didn't play Jason Kidd a single minute they would have been much better.

They dominated long stretches with their strong wing play, but our inside play wasn't always the best and I think you saw a lot of that today.

I was asking that question lately.

If americans would still continue the "road to Beijing" redemption thing.
Will they have the desire to do it? A motivation? I doubt it, however you never know. It depends on media mostly.
